Boston Marathon bombings remind Michigan officials to stay alert on game day
"This is one of the first incidents that involved a sports venue," Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon told the news. "All of us who host sporting events at large venues — if you don't pause for a moment and think about that, I think there's something wrong with you."
The News reports that the two large athletic departments are in constant contact with Homeland Security and that the 2010 renovation of Michigan Stadium made it easier to empty in case of an emergency.

Is that an older photo of the Big House before the towers were completed? Would hope maybe the 2011 night game photo would have been a better fit. That trivia aside; more seriously, the Boston bombings are indeed a wake up call to some of the weak links in Michigan Stadium security and precautions. Much more news and new details on implementing the changes will be announced as the summer draws to an end and the 2013 home opener nears.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are more than one intersection closing for all home games. You may be right.

"The 2010 renovation of Michigan Stadium made it easier to empty in case of an emergency." I was at the famous thunderstorm game a couple of years ago that ended up being suspended. When the warning came and the announcement to clear the stadium came across the instructions were very vague on what to do and where a safe zone was. Hope they have a better plan now.

The bombers will always have easy-access ways of attacking. Simply drive up, drop or toss. It's a no-brainer. The people must be vigilant, but on game day - forget that. The attempts at security are appreciated, responsible and necessary but we will never be able to curb this evil and madness.
