It didn't take long for Christina Ordonez to make an impact on the University of Michigan women's soccer team. Ordonez, a freshman, scored in the 82nd minute against the University of Pittsburgh on Sunday at the U-M Soccer Stadium.
It would prove to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for the Wolverines.
Michigan opened its season on Friday with a 5-0 win against Fordham at home. Michigan has six more games over the next three weeks before the Big Ten Season starts on September 15 against Indiana. (More at MGoBlue.com | Highlights)
MORE WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Eastern Michigan women's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit on Sunday against Oakland University and eventually earned a 3-3 tie with the visiting Grizzlies on Sunday.
Bianca Rossi scored in the 44th minute of a high-scoring first half make the score, 3-2. Rossi also scored the game-tying goal in the 54th minute. (More at EMUEagles.com)
WRESTLING
University of Michigan junior wrestler Jake Salazar fell just shy of winning the United States University World Team Trials on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Salazar automatically advanced to the championship series after winning the University Nationals in June, but dropped both of his matches in the final series against former Ohio State wrestler, Colt Sponseller.
Jimmy Kennedy, who trains at Ann Arbor's Cliff Keen Wrestling Club, won the 60 kilometer (132 pounds) division. (More at MGoBlue.com)
