RUNDOWN: In general, quarterbacks probably get too much credit when things are going well for a team and too much grief when they're not. This Big Ten season-opening matchup, however, clearly features a head-to-head battle between two of the conference's most successful signal callers to date.

Considering both defenses have given up yards in bunches, Robinson and Chappell could pad those statistics this week.
(If statisticians need any help keeping up, they can call on Chappell to help with that, too. He's already received dual bachelor’s degrees in accounting and production/operation management and will graduate with a master’s of science in accounting in May 2011.)
Of course there are more storylines surrounding this game than the quarterback matchup. AnnArbor.com has been covering them all since early this week. Here's a roundup of what you can find on our site, followed by more preview information on Michigan vs. Indiana and other games being played around the Big Ten.
FRIDAY • Last year's 36-33 Michigan win over Indiana was capped with a controversial interception by former Wolverine Donovan Warren. But the Hoosiers aren't using that as motivation. “It’s Michigan,” IU receiver Terrance Turner said. “You don’t need any more motivation than that.”
• Pete Bigelow and Mike Rothstein discuss the matchup in this video preview.
• Dustin Dopirak of the Bloomington Herald Times participates in our "beat writer breakdown," taking a look at the matchup from Indiana's perspective.
• Bigelow offers the top 5 things to watch during the 115th season of Big Ten football.
THURSDAY • One year after Michigan rallied for a 36-33 win over Indiana in Ann Arbor, the upcoming game has a very similar feel.
Michigan punter Will Hagerup will see a familiar face across the sidelines on Saturday. His brother, Chris, is Indiana's punter.
• The Michigan injury report is good for linebackers, bad for running backs.
• Whether it's catching the ball from his receiver position, running it on end arounds or returning kicks ... Indiana's Tandon Doss is one of the Big Ten's most dangerous weapons.
• An Associated Press report features Indiana's three offensive leaders (and friends): Doss, QB Ben Chappell and WR Damario Belcher..
• Indiana is one of several college programs finding success with the 'pistol' offensive formation.
WEDNESDAY • A more appreciative Kelvin Grady is thriving in a support role with the Michigan football team.
• Denard Robinson is ready to go, concussions threaten safety Mike Williams' career and more in our notebook.
TUESDAY • Former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese, now an ESPN commentator, is a big fan of Denard Robinson.
• In his Big Ten notebook, Bigelow says the Big Ten needs a reality check when discussing its preseason record (plus notes on Denard Robinson and Mark Dantonio).
• In our regular "Catching up With ... " feature, Jeff Arnold talks to former U-M receiver Amani Toomer about the current Wolverines team, his new role with the Big Ten Network and training for an upcoming marathon.
• Indiana fans have been pointing to Saturday's game against Michigan as a measuring stick since the schedule was released, the Associated Press reports.
MONDAY • Denard Robinson, banged up in last week's win over Bowling Green, won't get much time to rest while preparing for Indiana.
• Fitzgerald Toussaint's time on the field was short. After missing the first three games because of injury, the running back sidelined again after two carries against Bowling Green. (Plus items on uniform numbers and a possible game against Alabama in this notebook.)
• Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and several players talk about the upcoming Big Ten season in this video report.
• We provided live updates from Rich Rodriguez's Monday press conference.
SUNDAY • Michigan's second consecutive 4-0 start doesn't mean much, Bigelow writes.
ASSOCIATED PRESS PREVIEW That's not enough information to satiate you? Here's a preview capsule from the Associated Press:
WHAT'S AT STAKE Michigan is looking to reclaim its traditional mantle near the top of the Big Ten. To do that, it will take more than the one league win it had last season — a come-from-behind 36-33 escape over the Hoosiers. For Indiana, it's a potentially signature moment for Bill Lynch's team. A win would almost certainly bring back the fans at Memorial Stadium.
KEY MATCHUP Michigan QB Denard Robinson against the Indiana run defense. Robinson has been sensational through the first four games, with 688 yards rushing and a league-best 172 per game. Indiana is an inviting target, too. The Big Ten's 10th-ranked run defense is allowing 5.2 yards per carry and will certainly have to do better than that against Robinson to have a chance.
PLAYERS TO WATCH Michigan: Robinson. The Heisman Trophy candidate is the heart and soul of coach Rich Rodriguez's high-scoring offense.
Indiana: QB Ben Chappell. Big Ten defenses know how dangerous Chappell can be, but this will give the fifth-year senior an opportunity to show the nation what he can do. He's completed 72.4 percent of his passes, has thrown nine TDs, no interceptions and has been running the Big Ten's No. 1-ranked passing offense to perfection.
FACTS & FIGURES Indiana and Michigan are both averaging more than 41 points per game. ... Michigan has won 16 straight in the series, dating to Indiana's 1987 upset in Bloomington. ... Robinson was actually more efficient passing the ball (2-of-3 for 39 yards) than running it (11 carries, 24 yards) in last season's game against the Hoosiers. ... Indiana DT Larry Black Jr. will see a strange sight on the Michigan sideline Saturday: his brother Jibreel, a freshman DE for the Wolverines. Indiana P Chris Hagerup and Michigan P Will Hagerup are also brothers. ... The Hoosiers are hoping Saturday's game will be their first sellout of the season. ... Indiana hasn't started 4-0 since 1990 and hasn't won a Big Ten opener since beating Wisconsin in 2001.
AROUND THE BIG TEN When Wisconsin (4-0) travels to Michigan State (4-0) for a 3:30 p.m. game Saturday, the most intriguing matchup within the matchup will be Spartan linebacker Greg Jones and Wisconsin tailback John Clay. Our friends at MLive.com preview that game here.
And here's the rest of the Big Ten conference openers, all of which are previewed at BigTen.org:
• Ohio State (4-0) at Illinois (2-1), noon • Northwestern (4-0) at Minnesota (1-3), noon • Penn State (3-1) at Iowa (3-1), 8 p.m.

@ravres, You have to pay for a sports package to get it. I pay the for the sports package (and I'm too embarrassed to tell you what I pay a month) and I still don't get the new ESPN 3D channel. I believe Comcast is slowly taking over the world and that will bring new meaning to the words "On Demand". God help us all!

For the 80 $ a month I pay Comcast I don't get ESPNU, how can this be possible and how can the big ten opener for top 20 rated team not be on more accessible TV. Maybe the Michigan student tv network will be showing future games on public access? GO BLUE... BOO COMCAST

3 and out, I was actually surprised that Indiana was better (defensively) than us statistically. (total yards)This is according to Yahoo Sports. I'm thinking that Indiana played one a game less than us which would affect the ranking. But by average they are better than us which may be a little scary. I'm going to go out on a limb and change my prediction from scoring about 40+ a piece to around the same score as last year or a little less! It's not September anymore and the weather will affect the passing. Go Blue

One question our intrepid reporters neglected to ask: is Indiana's scoreboard capable of handling three-digit scores? I would venture we're going to be rather sick of hearing Tandon Doss's name by this time tomorrow. I would also have asked if the Hagerup brothers would be the first to punt against each other in an NCAA game, but I have a feeling neither will see the field tomorrow. Screw ESPN. Seems irresponsible to cut viewership drastically by placing the game on one a channel few people receive.

This is one of those tough games to predict. A 10 point spread is probably about right. I'll say Michigan 45 IU 38 (yes, we'll actually kick a FG!).
