Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel says Brady Hoke boosts the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry
CHICAGO — Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel says Brady Hoke is good for the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.
Angela J. Cesere | AnnArbor.com
“Brady’s awesome,” Tressel said Wednesday morning at the Big Ten spring meetings. “Anything that’s good for the Ohio State-Michigan game I’m for.
“And Brady’s good for it.”
Hoke has been adamant since he arrived at Michigan that he won’t say “Ohio State,” instead preferring “Ohio” to describe the Wolverines’ biggest rival. And Hoke said he hasn’t ever worn red as a primary game-day color, even though he was the head coach at Ball State and San Diego State and both schools have red in their color scheme.
He was a defensive line coach at Michigan under former Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr from 1995-2001.
Tressel has been dominant during his tenure at Ohio State. He is 9-1 against Michigan in his career, although some of those victories may be taken away due to an ongoing NCAA investigation into the Buckeyes’ football program.

I hear they are waiting until Tressel is fired and then they will make a statue of the two of them together (since The Vest loved RR too).

1st Down: Tressel is a documented and confirmed liar and cheater. All of the wins in his tainted era should be vacated. He is responsible for dirty ohio state separating themselves from the rest of the Big Ten by using compensated players. True! Hey Tater Tot, Congratulations! I just got back from the local library where I discovered your entire books in a new section titled, "Extremely Fiction" but alas, no one had taken any of your books out yet. GO BLUE!

Hoke has pulled in some very impressive new football recruits in a very short time. His staff and organization are remarkable. But can he beat the Darth Vader of college football coaching (the one who wears the vest)? In my opinion, he must beat OHIO within the next two years at the latest. Winning against the bucket of bolts team this year will be difficult (though not impossible). The 2012 Michigan team is starting to look awesome based on the verbal commitments coming in thus far. After the NCAA investigation of OSU is complete, it is likely that much stress will be on Tress. Let's hope the bad guys get a major beat down from the rules committee. The only question I have is: How long before the Maize and Blue are able to turn the corner completely? 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014...? Nebraska is going to be awesome as well. So we have a new rival to be concerned with, one who may be worse than those Columbine boys.

Nothing Tressel said is surprising. In fact, it's quite predictable. When you're on top of rival, like OSU is over Michigan, you praise your rival. You want to keep the status quo. Why? Because you want to keep winning. You want to stay on top of your rival. When you're on the bottom, like OSU was when Tressel arrived, you badmouth your rival. You want to shake things up. Why? Because you want to stop losing. You want to beat your rival.

I predict Jim Tressel will remain the coach for the bucs. I predict it will be a long road just to catch up with the bucs. I predict Brady Hoke will improve the program but it's going to be a long haul of catch up and Michigan fans better be patient.

Tressel has proven over and over he can not be trusted, so who could believe him now - pure politics. He has cheated over 10 years, used ineligible players/pro players and defied ethics and rules for victories. When Michigan puts another 11-3 (1987-2000) run at osu starting this November, it just won't be the same as Tressel will be loooooong gone from the school, state and football. MgoBlueForTiM !

tater "He was afraid of what RR could do if he got enough time to turn the program around, but he is not afraid of Brady Hoke." 7-42 (2008) , 10-21 (2009) , 7-37 (2010) ... what exactly was The Vest afraid of ? That his offensive players would get worn out scoring so much against RR's terrible D's ? You write some entertaining stuff tater.

Does it really matter what Tressel thinks of Hoke? It's not like JT is ever going to coach another game for aOSU.

This is settled on the field every year. Tressel understands that. He also understands that Hoke gets it. Which is why Hoke was a good hire. Time to stop focusing on the NCAA and the question of whether college athletes are pros or amateurs. As long as they're not paid to come to Ohio State (like they apparently are in the SEC) I have no problem with it.

Again, Tressel smiles, and says something nice. That must just kill Wolverine fans. I wonder, what it feels like, to have "Mr. Rogers" bend you over his knee and spank your little bottom every year. All the time, he's telling you what a great school you are. He cracks me up. If he survives this investigation, he will continue to do the same thing- every year.

Well now that Tress is feeling a little bit better he can laugh again. He didnt cheat, his players were allowed the same benefits apparently that every school offers in every sport. We forget these players dont get paid the millions to live their dream. Yes an education is great but dont be naive and think that not having money to buy what you want is not a young mans mindframe. That being said OSU still boasts the most depth of any team in the conference. For years they been losing 5 or 6 starters on either side of the ball and come back better the next year. Michigan was in a good spot with RR with the O. Had a top recruit RB to take some pressure off of DR. Luckily Hoke was hired because he was basically told they wanted change but if you cant make it work with that offense your in trouble. The defense was young and depleted hand had no depth that was any good. Hopefully the secondary learned a lot and its looking on paper to be decent depth wise and could be the best part of the defense if strides were made. The D line and LB look solid and hopefully the depth will be solid as well. All bs aside they brought RR in to get guys like DR in their program because Carr wouldnt do it and now they got their "Michigan Man" back in the program with some elses players.

Is anyone really surprised by the Ohio president or AD's backing Tressel? The Ohio student newspaper which called for Tressel's dismissal seems painfully but refreshingly naive in its belief that values matter. One thinks of the Lombardi dictum that "winning isn't everything--it's the only thing" as being misinterpretted by Ohio since Lombardi's statement was backed by a code of intergrity and its honor. The only good thing is that the truth is seldom so clearly revealed.

I'm sure this is just what Brady Hoke has been waiting for - an endorsement from O-Lie-O-State's flim-flam artist and coach, Jim Tressel. It would be best if The Vest simply avoids all media during the meeting and keeps his mouth shut. With his non-existent credibility, who really cares WHAT he says anymore?

Tressel says this because he is not afraid of Brady Hoke. He was afraid of what RR could do if he got enough time to turn the program around, but he is not afraid of Brady Hoke. And really, why should he be? He spanked Lloyd Carr like an insolent child, year after year. Carr is still one of three University of Michigan football coaches to lose four times in a row to TSIO, and is the one who started Michigan's longest losing streak to TSIO in the history of the rivalry. Also, it can certainly be argued that Carr's sabotage of the program is partially, though not fully responsible, for RR's three losses. If I am Jim Tressel, and I have deluded myself into thinking I still have my job, I want the Carr-tel to be coaching Michigan for as long as I am coaching. So now, it's up to Brady Hoke to prove Jim Tressel wrong. Hopefully, he will transcend his Carr-tel membership and use his outside connections to bring some new DNA into the inbred Michigan coaching tree. Thankfully, DC Greg Mattison has acutally coached where they win National Championships, and also in the NFL. Borges has also coached on a team that probably deserved a slot in the National Championship game and didn't get one. If Brady Hoke realizes his strengths are leadership and being the world's greatest talking Michigan bobble-head doll for the media, and delegates the X's and O's to Mattison and Borges, TSIO can end up being in a position of "be careful what you ask for." If it regresses to Carr-ball, though, get ready for a lot of 8-5 seasons and a lot of talk about how "we're finally playing MICHIGAN FOOTBALL and we'll get 'em next year."

Hoke ran a pretty wide-open offense his last season at SDSU. What has he said or done that would indicate he plans on doing off-tackle every play? Will he run Denard Robinson on every single play and create an offense so utterly predictable it led one Mississippi State defender to say, "This was easy. We knew EXACTLY what they were going to do?" Is that the kind of football you want? Predictable football where one injury turns a poor 7-6 team into a horrible 2-10 team?

Tress, We need to cheat (like you) to stay competitive in this day and age. A decade or so from now, all the Crystal Bowl winners for the past 8+ years will have their titles "vacated". Your "win" with Clarett etc., obviously, is also headed to the toilet. I'm torn. Not sure if Hoke should do it the honest way or your way. One way or the other, your time is about up, and WOW do you look foolish. You still go out in public outside of ohio? I'm sick of talking to you. Your non-pal, Theo

Theo 212, I hope you shall convince OSU to fire Tress and to hire RR as HC or OC so you can continue with your dazzling RR poetry. GO BLUE! Tress is quaking with fear at the thought of seeing Hoke (Is It) lumbering across from the field to shake Tressel's hand while wearing a big grin, year after year (should Tress stay on as the HC at OSU). No doubt about it.
