Nebraska football team set to take Big Ten's 'drama king' title from Michigan?

By AnnArbor.com Staff

In his Big Ten blog on ESPN.com, Adam Rittenberg says league newcomer Nebraska looks ready to take away the 'drama king' title from Michigan.

Rittenberg cites Big 12 blogger David Ubben's claim that "no team in college football was more interesting on and off the field for more reasons in the last year than Nebraska." (Side question: When do Rittenberg and Ubben official hand off Nebraska duties?)

Rittenberg writes: "The Michigan Wolverines have been undoubtedly the Big Ten's drama kings in recent years ... but I'd expect things to settle down a bit around Schembechler Hall."

Ubben's exhaustive laundry list of headlines out of Lincoln over the past 12 months certainly rivals the drama - to borrow a Rich Rodriguez phrase - that's played out in Ann Arbor. And the writers' opinions are that many of the Cornhusker storylines will continue into 2011.

@TRU, good observation and comparison. Maybe these players need to be taken out to pasture. However, "Nebby" is a way better school than Moo U, also, does that school in oHIO do a lot of farming too?

Untested as of now is: that Brady Hoke won't let his (quite evident) passion for Michigan football cause him to "perform" like the Nebraska coach. But Coach Hoke doesn't strike me as being that un-cool, in fact he seems to have a near perfect perspective and is equipped with a good sense of humor. (Unlike some previous Michigan coaches who I won't name here.) Admitting that I'm naturally grudge-bent toward Nebraska, it still seems that Nebraska has a history of embarrassing flounces which resemble one other Big Ten school when it comes to keeping players who get convicted of various crimes and misdemeanors (and that school happens to be our in-state rival). Prompting me to ask: what is it about agricultural schools that makes them havens for criminal types? Michigan needs only to get back on-track to football greatness and promoting the idea that they are the model for good character & good behavior. Yeah, let Nebby U have the Bad Behaviors Championship, if they still want it.

Newzdog, If one can somehow succeed in gagging whatshisname's excusemaking motormouth, then whatshisname will be forever forgotten and no one will ever mention his name. To top it off, CBS (with Theo's help, of course) hired him not for his expertise in football but for his expertise in EXCUSEMAKING. Hoke Is It. GO BLUE!

As long as AA.com keeps getting huge responses in these comment forums, they will keep posting articles with references to the former regime. The only recourse is to stop showing interest in those articles.

@Portage, yes, whatshisname would be the guy with the 15-22 and 6-18 in the B1G, as Murrow's Ghost likes to put it.....that. @Newzdog, I have news for you, we've had to put up with this ridiculous kool-aid drinking man crush a few posters have had on here of whatshisname. They need to be reminded and responded to quite frequently, so sorry man. I will always hate that guy for what he did to our program, I hope he never does well anywhere, anytime, anyhow!!!!!

I find the so called "whatshisname" bashers just as tiring as the "whatshisname" lovers. I wish everyone would just move on.

Totally agree with you Newzdog, and also with MichFanTex ... AA.com mentioning whatshisname in practically every article does not help. Let's move on and look forward to Mr. Hoke's "If we don't win the title we have failed" approach to football.

Perhaps you might register your concern with Ann Arbor dot Com, it seems they can't write a single story about the Michigan football program without at least once referencing whatshisname.

Nebraska's head coach Bo Pelini often goes berserk on the sidelines, which is very entertaining and adds to the "drama" aspect of things for the Cornhuskers. As they did in the Big Twelve, they will challenge for titles in the Big Ten. They also travel very well. Their fans are every bit as rabid as Buckeye fans so that will make it interesting, too. My son and I drove down to the Alamo Bowl in 2005 and enjoyed some friendly banter with the Nebraska fans before the game, most of whom were polite and respectful of Michigan and its football tradition.

Only if the whatshisname lovers will give their man crushes a rest and let Hoke and his staff do their job. Judged by discussions here and on MGoBlog.com (the official whatshisname man crush site), there's little chance of that happening. Good Night and Good Luck

Hey Portage, sounds like from your repeated comments that you don't want Hoke to do well. If you're so doubtful, how come you didn't take me up on that wager I challenged you to last week? Oh, that's what I thought........

The clingers on, though a hard core lot, are few in number and have the relevance of a couple of MSU fans making fools of themselves at Stadium and Main on any given football Saturday.

(Side question: When do Rittenberg and Ubben official hand off Nebraska duties?) Nebraska is a member of the Big Ten effective July 1, 2011. I suppose that'd be Ubben-Rittenberg handoff date?
