Minnesota AD not sure if football coach Jerry Kill will be back for Michigan game

By Nick Baumgardner

Michigan and Minnesota will play for the Little Brown Jug for the first time since 2008 on Saturday, but Golden Gopher coach Jerry Kill might not be there.

Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Monday that he has "no idea" when Kill will be released from the hospital following another bout with a seizure Sunday, or if he'll be able to coach this weekend in Ann Arbor.

Kill suffered a seizure during Minnesota's home opener against New Mexico State on Sept. 10. Kill said last week that he has suffered multiple seizures since that time, and after another on Sunday, decided to admit himself into the hospital for further treatment.

"The guy's got some health issues that we're going to take care of," Maturi told the Pioneer Press. "I'm more concerned about Jerry right now than I am any other aspect.

"I feel badly for everybody involved, but it's like anything else — it's the hand we're dealt, and we're going to deal with it in the right way. We're blessed to have a staff that's been with Jerry and knows who he is, knows what he wants, and they'll carry it on real well. Hopefully, our kids will respond appropriately."

Kill was hired by Minnesota last December following the firing of Tim Brewster midway through the 2010 season.

Prior to taking the Golden Gopher job, Kill spent three seasons at Northern Illinois. His head coaching career began at Saginaw Valley State University in 1994.
