Michigan football team will wear special jerseys for Sugar Bowl
Another big game, another special jersey for the Michigan football team?
It appears the Wolverines could wear a new version of the "legacy" uniforms it wore in games against Notre Dame and Michigan State when it faces Virginia Tech on Jan. 3 in the Sugar Bowl.
A version of the Sugar Bowl jerseys is on sale on the M Den website, and it shows the white road jersey with maize pants that feature a block "M," and a jersey with more subtle striping than was used earlier this season.
School spokesmen could not yet say whether this is the jersey Michigan will wear, although one confirmed there will be "tweaks" to the typical jersey for the matchup against the Hokies.
The replica jerseys from the M Den cost $60.

I totally agree with the three highlihghted posts............smokblwr, garrisondyer, D21. Brandon, is SELLING OUT, Michigan's tradition, for a cheap gimmick. Al for a coupe of bucks. Yechhhhh. Darn it Dave, if you don't like the UM traditional uniforms, then LEAVE! All you are doing, is turning Michigan into another, run of the mill, second rate, college. So STOP it already!!!!!!!!!! The traditional road uniforms are GREAT, just the way they are! We HAVE an identity. We ARE Michigan! If that is good enough then people can go elsewhere.

enough already. with so much talk about Michigan men and tradition, why all the nonsense with the uniforms this year? We have the best uniform in all of college football. no need to change anything!

If we did anything unique the only thing I wouldn't personally mind is if we wore all Maize with Blue lettering and numbering with our iconic helmets, I think that would be a really cool, modern look that maintains integrity. What do you guys and gals think?

Still prefer the originals. However if they persist, try creating a jersey with a small holographic maize n blue slash across the WCIMFH's face. Stick to the originals, Brandon and this ain't the New Yawk fashion show.

The Program is always bigger than the kids. They are kids for a reason they do not know enough at this point in their life. They should not be making the decisions for Michigan football. That is what is wrong with our society today. The kids should not make major decisions the educated adults who are paid to do the right thing and uphold timeless traditions should make the decisions.

The kids are not making the decisions. The kids enjoy wearing the alternative uniforms-- a decision made by the adults.

David Brandon, putting the Greed in Michigan. Hey Dave, there's no M in Greed! Look up the definition of "Uniform" and report back to us. And Dave, why not a different "uniform" for every game? Like the Church Lady said, "wouldn't that be special"? Yup, here's Michigan, following the herd. So much for Leaders and Best!

Brady Hoke continues to stress first and foremost that The Michigan Football Program is all about the kids. And guess what? The kids love the alternative uniforms. As far as I'm concerned any "controversy" ends there.

This is an absolute joke. These jerseys are a disgrace to Fitz, Bo, and Michigan foootball. Coach Hoke is doing a good job. David Brandon is turning out to be not what I thought he was. It seems he is more into the CIRCUS aspect of football and not the stuff that matters. I always thought we would be one of the last real programs standing to wear are true uniforms. It is obvious we have fallen to the new culture of All Show and No Go.

ytown.....I agree! Brandon is NOT what I hoped he would be. He thinks he is a marketing genious, and all he is doing, is laying a BIG egg. Davie, step down, before you turn my beloved school, into a circus act!

I wish they wouldn't do this -- Notre Dame game as fine. But, with all of these funky uniforms they are looking like the ACC teams I am burdened to hear about living in Blacksburg, VA. We should stick to the traditional Michigan uniforms instead of trying to look like a team that is trying to be somebody by wearing goofy uniforms (Hokies, Spartans (game against M), Oregon duckies, or the Maryland turtles!

My personal opinion is this. We are Michigan quite possibly the most celebrated all time winning college football team. We have the, "Big House" the greatest venue in college sports. Just about everything about us including our celebrated university is unique. Our fan base is unique and gets us more TV exposure than possibly any other college in this great country. Now about our uniforms. Our distintive uniforms and helmets set us apart from any other major college football teams uniforms. Our helmets are our signature and we've already tweeked them with the addition of the numbers. I and others that I know find these uniforms somewhat clownish. We are an original institution and that includes our team and uniforms, (helmets). Lets stay original , do we really need to join the circus with these other schools that feel that flashy is the accepted fashion of the day? Next they'll want to put Neon lights on our uniforms just because Oregon and Michigan State are doing it.

Amen!!!!!!!!!!! Don't mess with the uniforms. The MOST distinctive helmets and uniforms in college football, SHOUT, that Michigan, IS college football! Do NOT tamper with that.

The word "special" connotes something that doesn't happen very often. Seeing as this will be the fifth different uniform Michigan will be wearing this year, a better description to note the $$$ purpose would be "collectable" e.g., "Get your Smurf figurine with your Happy Meal at your neighborhood McDonald's - collect them all!" Can't wait for the Alabama game next year. I predict a holster on the right pant leg to commemorate playing at Cowboy Stadium.

I like it. This jersey does nothing to dilute Michigan tradition. As long as these alternate jerseya don't become flamboyant and futuristic I'm good. Three more weeks ladies and gents! GO BLUE!!!!!

Admittedly, these look better than the ones used earlier in the year, but come on! We're going to use "special" jerseys three times in one season?! What, then, makes them special?! We should just wear our normal uniforms like the traditional powerhouse that we are. Stop trying to be special by using all these gimmicks.

Tue, Dec 13, 2011 : 9:40 p.m.
Because it's still messing with a traditionally good-looking uniform. And, it gets really old when it happens all the &$*(&$* time, a la this year.

Does UM pay for all these jerseys du jour? Or are they promo freebies provided by Adidas as part of their marketing battle with Nike, at al? If we're paying for it, seems like a waste to me. Oh well, at least we're not wearing any of those pro-combat types...yet.
garrisondyer
Tue, Dec 13, 2011 : 9:38 p.m.
Because the pro combat ones are even more hideous than any of the special jersey's M has worn all year. Seriously, they're hideous.
