Fifth-year senior David Molk is the starting center and captain for the Michigan football team. Known among reporters for his short, sometimes curt answers, Molk explained on Monday that he doesn't hate the media, or people in general, just bad questions.

Q: We asked teammate Ryan Van Bergen why you hate the media, and he said to not take it personally because you hate all people. Is that true?

David Molk: I don't hate people. I don't sit at home like a hermit and just toil about how much I hate the world. That's not what I do. ...There's no book. There's no, 'why Dave Molk hates the world.'"

Q: Would you admit that there has been tension at press conferences in seasons past?

DM: Sure, I mean there's no doubt about that. Especially when guys asked me bad questions.

Q: What do you consider a bad question?

DM: You guys kept asking about my injury. I hated that. That's what turned me on you guys.

Q: Is Vincent Smith easier to block for because he's kind of short (Smith is 5-foot, 6-inches tall)?

DM: I don't think there's any difference. It's more that he can, it's easier for him to hide from defenders.

Q: Despite his size, is Vincent Smith a tough guy?

DM: He's really tough. He likes to hit, that's the really weird thing about him. He's such a small guy you'd think he'd shy away from it or cut block some guys, you know, get away from the heavy contact. But he will seek out and go find the biggest guy on the defense and just nail 'em, and I love that about him.

Q: How fired up do you think San Diego State will be to beat their old coach?

DM: I don't know, I'm not really in their place, but this is Michigan versus San Diego State.

Q: What if you were facing former coach Rich Rodriguez?

DM: I don't really know. I'm sure it'd be weird.

Q: How good do you think San Diego State is?

DM: They're a good team. It's a valuable opponent. They have a very good defense. They really have an interesting scheme on defense that'll be kind of fun to see.

Q: How does this 3-0 start compare to 3-0 starts the previous two years?

DM: It feels about the same. We just gotta make sure to maintain this level of play we're at and improve through the season as we get into the Big Ten season to maintain this winning thing. ... Obviously, we're happy for three wins in a row, that's always a good thing, having no losses. But at the same time we're more in tune with what our issues are. We know what they are, we know how to fix them. We're really putting a valiant effort to fix those every week.

Q: What's your evaluation of quarterback Denard Robinson, his passing game obviously isn't where the team would want it to be, do you have any insight as to the reason for that?

DM: He's just needed to progress as a player and that's something he'll find in himself and when he figures that out, he figures it out. ... He's an incredible player, we all know that. We all know he is, he's just, he's a winner.

Q: Do you think San Diego State being a West Coast team playing in Michigan at noon, will affect the game?

DM: It shouldn't be an issue. Every coaching staff adapts for these kinds of things and they'll be ready to play.

Q: What would you say is one of the weakness is of the offensive line right now and what are you doing to help?

DM: As far as weaknesses, I really can't pinpoint just one specific thing. It's just kind of a meld of different little issues that kind of come to light that aren't allowing us to give the full force that we need to every game. ...You could evaluate and kind of call it a couple different things. You really don't know what it is, you can't specifically say, "That's it! We can fix it just by doing this." It's never like that. That's why this game is so dynamic and it's why everyone loves it.

Q: Having former San Diego State coaches on your offense, and head coach Brady Hoke, are there things you think they'll help you with against that defense?

DM: I think they obviously know the team because they coached them, so I'd say that's an obvious plus. Personnel wise, they know their players.

Q: When you see that Denard has 26 carries, does that concern you?

DM: Sometimes, like I just said, you do what works. If the option is the read off of Denard and he goes, he goes. It's his choice. But if we can make a hole and take some carries off him and take some hits off him, that's great.

Q: What does being ranked No. 22 mean to you?

DM: Nothing.

Q: Fellow offensive lineman Taylor Lewan said line was "pissed off" from the lack of rushing production, is that something you guys talked about last week?

DM: Yes and no. I mean it's uh ... football is football. It's a dynamic game. Sure, we as an offensive line we do, we love, we don't like pass blocking, we love running the ball. We like hitting people. That's what we do. That's what's in our heart. But if we need to turn to something else, we turn to something else.

Q: Does it matter to you if it's a running back by committee or featured back situation?

DM: Whoever is running is running. I'll block for him.

Molk is a classic no BS guy; refreshing for someone so young.
