Michigan football practice yields good news, bad news on injury front
The injury news at the Michigan football team's practice Tuesday was a mixed bag.
On the positive side: Starting cornerbacks Troy Woolfolk and J.T. Floyd, who each left the game Saturday against San Diego State with injuries (although Floyd later returned), participated in the 20-minute window available to the media and were with the starting defense.
On the negative side: Linebackers Cam Gordon (back) and Brandon Herron (leg) warmed up with their position group, but were not with the first- or second-unit defenses in the four plays observed by the media.
Michigan coach Brady Hoke said Monday that Gordon "just (is) not where he needs to be yet." The sophomore had been declared available for the San Diego State game, but did not dress.
Meantime, freshman running back Justice Hayes, who did not dress against the Aztecs because of "a bump," according to Hoke, did not warm up with his position group.
Starting left guard Ricky Barnum was not with his position group during warmups. The junior left the San Diego State game after twisting his ankle, and Hoke said his status for the Minnesota (1-3) game Saturday (Noon, BTN) is uncertain.
In non-injury news, junior tailback Vincent Smith, listed on the depth chart as a co-starter for the first time this season, was with the starting offense. He got the ball on the first play, but fumbled it.
