Michigan football picks up another commitment, safety Allen Gant
The Michigan football team picked up another commitment for its 2012 recruiting class. Unsurprisingly, it's a defensive player.
Allen Gant, a safety from Sylvania, Ohio, announced his non-binding verbal commitment to Michigan on WTKA-AM (1050) this morning.
Gant becomes the 13th member of Michigan's class of 2012 and 10th on the defensive side of the ball. He is the second defensive back in his class, joining cornerback Terry Richardson of Detroit.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is also listed as a wide receiver, but is expected to play safety in college. He selected Michigan over West Virginia, Boston College and Illinois.
Gant is the son of former Michigan defensive back Tony Gant, who played in Ann Arbor from 1982-86.

It is so great to see big physical defensive players committing... After a year or two this defense is going to absolutely bring it. No more playing on your heels in a 3-3-5 nonsense. Time to line up and man handle teams like the good ol days. The future looks bright. Go blue.

This is Michigan baby! Exactly what we needed...a physically huge, gifted safety who can clean up the back line of our defense...and a legacy Michigan Man to boot! Go Brady Hoke & Company. Welcome to Michigan Mr. Gant... your class will be a part of the next National Championship to be won by the Wolverines.

If we don't start recruiting some offensive talent, that side of the ball is going to go through the same attrition the defense went through for the past 3 years.

as 1st down said, we have a QB for the extended future, and more RBs than we know what to do with. OL depth is fine, and recruits will fill in the holes given time. I agree that a big game breaker at WR would be nice, but we may have that in Devin Funchess. He seems to be built more like a WR than a TE, and i wouldnt be surprised if the split him out wide and use his size. With his speed and size he would physically dominate most CBs.

...we are set at QB for the next 6 years with Denard, Devin, and Shane Morris.... have some excellent RB recruits in the pipeline and a couple TEs....OL recruiting is also going well....we could use a game breaking WR to come in and that is what Im hoping tops off this class

The flood of Ohio football players coming to play for Michigan has just begun. That team down south is on the verge of having its worst recruiting year or years in decades thanks to old "sweater vest" and his gang of cheaters.

Gant was a fine Wolverine in the mid to late 80s, and it is nice to see the next generation return home. Go blue. Let the character return to the defensive backfield (after the last few years of recruits did not work out so well).

I remember Tony Gant - He was a great one. Allen will more than likely follow his dad's example. If he had gone to any other school it would have been terribly wrong. Go Allen! Go Blue!

His dad used to roam the secondary here. I seriously doubt that he wants to forgo that legacy.

Dagnabbit! I've told Hoke over and over again -- the optimal Big 10 player size is 5'6" and 155 pounds. What's up with all these big and tall players? :-)

DAZ you left off "football" between "big and tall" and "players".
