Michigan football junior Devin Gardner officially switches to No. 12, still listed as a QB

Michigan junior Devin Gardner will officially wear No. 12 next season. Presently, he's still listed as a quarterback on the roster.

CHICAGO -- Devin Gardner has officially changed numbers.

But has yet to change positions.

The Michigan football team unveiled its 2012 media guide for the first time Thursday, updating heights, weights and number changes on its roster. And Gardner, a 6-foot-4, 206-pound junior, has officially switched from No. 7 to No. 12.

Gardner was seen sporting No. 12 -- wide receiver Roy Roundtree's old jersey number -- during a football camp earlier this summer, but no official confirmation on the jersey switch was made at the time.

While he has a new jersey, his position remains the same -- for now anyway. Gardner, who worked out at wide receiver periodically during spring practice, is officially listed as a quarterback on the Wolverines' roster.

Gardner took snaps at receiver during practice, but did not line up there in Michigan's spring game -- instead working exclusively at quarterback.

As for Roundtree, he's now officially listed as No. 21 in honor of Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard, and is currently the only member of the roster to don a "Michigan Football Legend" uniform.

Earlier this summer, Michigan announced that it would be un-retiring Nos. 47, 48 and 87 for next season. Though, presently, no one on the Michigan roster has been assigned either of those three numbers.

The other notable number switch was wide receiver Drew Dileo (from No. 26 to No. 9).
