Lloyd Carr looks forward to watching Michigan football offensive coordinator Al Borges work with Denard Robinson

By Pete Cunningham

How would former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr handle the offensive personnel that new coach Brady Hoke will work with this year, particularly dual-threat quarterback Denard Robinson?

It doesn’t matter.

Carr - who visited WTKA-AM (1050) on Friday morning for the annual Mott Takeover, and kick off the 12-hour radio fundraiser - said he doesn’t spend his time looking back at what he would, and would rather look at what the current staff will do.

“What’s important is what Al Borges will do,” Carr said. “I’ve coached against Al Borges when he was at Indiana, and I always had a lot of respect for him.”

Borges was the offensive coordinator at Indiana in 2002 and 2003. Michigan and Indiana didn’t play in 2002, but Carr’s Wolverines beat the Hoosiers, 31-17, during the 2003 season.

Now Borges will work with Robinson, who finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting last season after compiling 4,272 yards of total offense as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. Robinson, who worked out of the shotgun formation all of last season as the focal point of the offense, took some snaps under center in the spring game.

“(Borges) will do the things that Denard can do, and I think that’s really what coaching’s all about,” Carr said. “You gotta take what your personnel can do and then you have to be able to give them the best chance to win. And you gotta do things that they can do, and I think Al Borges will do that.”

Reading some of the MCC comments is like a combination of Groundhog Day and Shawshank Redemption: You have to crawl through lots of sewage, and it seems like you have to do it over and over and over again, in every article.

Lloyd doesn't need to look for high ground, his 122-40 record and avoidance of any substansive NCAA violations already provides him with ground high enough for anyone.

Apparantly Carr was unsuccessful in convincing Denard to transfer out, and now he wants to see if Broges can do anything with him......

Exactly right LC, do the things that your personnel is geared towards, sound familiar? What a concept, that's what smart coaches who are not consumed by their ego do. What a difference from the last three years. I guess we don't have to worry about crawling through 500 yards of sewage to see a light at the end of the tunnel (Whatshisname's "Shawshank Redemption" description of what he went through in AA). Sorry I had to bring that up again, I just want to make sure no one forgets his comments and what a lack of class he showed in making them. TiM Go Blue!!!
