NEW YORK (AP) — New York Jets and former Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested in Manhattan on a charge of driving while intoxicated Tuesday, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Edwards, who played at Michigan from 2001-2004, was pulled over on the west side of Manhattan around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday because his vehicle had excessive tinting on its windows, and officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol, said the official, who was not authorized to speak about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

In January, Edwards was placed on probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct in Cleveland. He was accused of punching a man outside a nightclub.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Edwards showed poor judgment.

"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning," Tannenbaum said in a statement. "We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."

Tannenbaum noted the Jets have a special program for players: If one goes into a social setting and plans to drink, he can call for a driver to take him home.

Awesome... University of Michigan police would never try to give an athlete a break would they? Love the quote pulled from the ESPN article... "Urbina asked Edwards if he was familiar with a breathalyzer. He responded that he was but asked why he would not undergo a field sobriety test like in Michigan, where he went to college. The officer said that was not procedure in New York."

When is Edwards going to grow up? His football career is going no where fast and his off the field behavior is getting worse. Pretty soon, unless he straightens out, he's going to find himself out of the league with no accomplishments other than his college days - which people in most places have already forgotten. C'mon Braylon; time to get serious about life and your career.

never ceases to amaze me why these multi-millionaires, in this day, age and climate, can't or won't hire a limo, cab, or hire a designated driver.
