Iowa offers scholarship to ex-Michigan WR Braylon Edwards' brother, Berkley, a Chelsea RB

Earlier this spring, Braylon Edwards wondered aloud why no one inside the Michigan football program had taken serious interest in his brother, Chelsea High School running back Berkley Edwards.
Well, Brady Hoke still hasn't made a formal offer to the younger Edwards, but a team with a former Michigan standout on its staff has.
According to Scout.com's Allen Trieu, the University of Iowa formally offered Berkley Edwards on Wednesday.
The offer comes from a coaching staff that currently features Braylon Edwards' former Wolverine position coach, Erik Campbell.
Iowa has offered Chelsea High School running back Berkley Edwards, the brother of ex-Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

"Soup," of course, is a nickname for Campbell -- who earned four letters at Michigan from 1984-87 before spending 13 seasons (1995-07) on former coach Lloyd Carr's coaching staff.
Berkley Edwards -- a 5-foot-8, 176-pound all-purpose back -- was a member of the AnnArbor.com Dream Team as a junior last season, joining 2012 Michigan recruit Drake Johnson of Pioneer High School in the backfield.
At Chelsea a year ago, Edwards scampered for 1,520 yards and 18 touchdowns on 269 carries.
Scout.com currently rates Edwards as a three-star player, and the No. 64 overall running back in the 2013 class. Rivals.com, meanwhile, also rates Edwards as a three-star -- and spots him as the No. 9 all-purpose back in the 2013 group.
Presently, Michigan holds the consensus top-ranked recruiting class in America, a group that features 21 pledges.
The only halfback currently committed to the class is Howland (Ohio) High School back Deveon Smith -- who is ranked as a four-star prospect by Scout.com, and the seventh-best running back in America.
Detroit Catholic Central four-star athlete Wyatt Shallman is also a member of Michigan's 2013 class. Shallman plays defensive line and fullback at Catholic Central, but is expected to play offense in college. Scout.com rates him as the No. 2 fullback in America.

Only a scholarship offer to Berkley Edwards to Iowa. Time will tell if he accepts and then how well he does wherever he goes.

If Michigan's coaches and Shallman say he is a running back, why can't you take them at their word?

Yes, the title is a mess, particularly on the 1 st page with the headlines. Berkeley Edwards is the subject of the sentence, seems like his name should be first, introducing us to him. Oh well, I just hope Braylon stops his crying now.

Wyatt Shallman is also committed to Michigan as a Running Back. He is not mentioned in this article. Regarding Berkley Edwards... his build and skill set do not fit in with what Michigan is transitioning to on offense. In addition to this, they picked up a similar (and quite possibly better) player in this years class with Dennis Norfleet. No offense to Edwards, but the numbers at his position may not validate a Michigan offer.

Its OK Nick...I get where you are coming from. Shallman insists that he will be in the RB mix however, and that is what he is told he is being recruited for. IMO he will be a nice change of pace big back...or maybe an H back Aaron Shea type.

Steve, Shallman translates as a defensive lineman/fullback. I didn't mean to leave him out, I was just pointing out that Smith is the team's only halfback pledge -- in a traditional sense. Sorry for the confusion.
