Former Michigan football star Charles Woodson is pleased to see Brady Hoke as Michigan's new football coach. "Brady Hoke is a guy I consider a friend," he said.

For Charles Woodson, the hiring of Brady Hoke as the Michigan’s next football coach was a no-brainer.

“You got a guy who understands Michigan football, understands the Big Ten, understands Michigan-Ohio State,” Woodson said Thursday while making an appearance at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

“That’s what he’s going to bring back to our team.”

Woodson won the Heisman Trophy at Michigan in 1997 while Hoke was a member of the Wolverines’ defensive coaching staff. The two became close during that time.

“Brady Hoke is a guy I consider a friend, not just now, but as a player he was a guy you knew really cared about players,” Woodson said. “I think he’ll do a good job, and I think he’ll bring us back to national prominence.”

Members of the Children’s Hospital staff, patients and supporters honored “Charles Woodson Day” on Thursday at the Ann Arbor hospital, for which the former Wolverine has given at least $2 million in recent years.

This is all well and good. But any Michigan football story that doesn't mention Our King is disingenuous. Did He rescue us from underachievement? Yes. Are we Crystal bound? Yes. Do we now know how to play REAL football? Yes. Glad you all agree. Especially you, D21, glad we got each other's back. Go Blue.

Thanks Theo212, still pining for your "King" and I hope he will have a job for you as his cue card reader over at CBS! :) Hail to Charles!

I love and agree with all these comments. Charles In Charge!! To be the most valuable defensive player in the NFL at his age is remarkable. To add a Super Bowl ring is extraordinary. His determination to get back into that game and inspire his team is indicative of the same type of character he displays in his committment to Mott and the kids! A true credit to all the true Michigan Men everywhere! He likes Brady. Most all of us like Brady. GO BLUE!

Thank you, Mr. Woodson, for all you do to help sick children and their families receive just a little more comfort.

Charles Woodson is a class act.Its also great what he does for Children,it speaks volume's.What i don't understand, and maybe i never will.I want a winner, then we can worry about the fight songs,Pom Poms.and all that other stuff.None of this ever got you a first down.It all sounds good, and gets people fired up.Like Al Davis say's JUST WIN BABY..All that other stuff will take care of itself.Tired of hearing about Michigan Man stuff.Alot of Old School Michigan Fans, what i mean Fans for Decades,Not 15 minute fans are sick of it too.

It's wonderful to see a high profile athlete from Michigan giving back so much. Charles Woodson is a shining example for other athletes and students at U-M. Thanks Charles!
