In 2007, Harbs was coming out of San Diego ..where he had done an excellent job, but still at a small school, and just starting at Stanford.....combine that with a fairly recent DUI a couple years earlier + his comments comparing Stanford academics to Michigan's... and toss in a myopic and inexperienced-at-hiring football coaches AD in Bill Martin...and you get the recipe for passing him over...and the resulting disaster. That said, things are rolling right along here with Coach Hoke...we just had to endure 3 terrible seasons to get us here.

Imagine if michigan was loyal to its former player back in 2007. Where was the call for Jim then. Whats the excuse for this one? Maybe just maybe could of have the both of them coaching together on this staff. Jon may have took a solid foundation with the ravens but i have been impressed how he has kept them very competitive.

Hiring Harbaugh out of SDSU would have been a big gamble for UM, I think Jim wanted to coach in the NFL and would have left any college program to do so, would it have made any difference if he came here for 4 years instead of going to Stanford? He loves the bay area, and he didn't really help himself by making the less than charitable comments he made about UM back then. I think he made the right choice going the 49ers, and UM got the guy that was the best fit for their program.

I don't think he was contacted about the job. In fact, I remember most Michigan fans being mad at him during that time for criticizing the program for directing players towards useless, easy majors.

Do we know for a fact Harbaugh wasn't contacted back then? Honest and sincere question -- I do not know. All I heard/read was Les Miles, and once that fell through then Rodriguez.

I'm such a college football bigot that once Harbaugh moved to the NFL I lost all interest in his story. I wish him luck with the 49rs, but beyond that I really don't care. September 3rd can't come quick enough for me! Go Blue!
