Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier no longer headed to Miami, report says

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier is not transferring to Miami as originally planned, ESPN reported Friday.

Forcier, who announced Jan. 20 that he was leaving the Michigan program after two seasons, was reported to be ready to join Miami in February. ESPN reported that "personal reasons" are why Forcier will not play for the Hurricanes.

Forcier started every game his freshman season, completing 165 of 281 passes for 2,050 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He backed up Denard Robinson his sophomore year and was 54-of-84 passing for 587 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He was ruled ineligible for the Gator Bowl.

Tate is a really good young man. I would like to see him stay and somehow get back on our team. It's hard to say what happened last year, but RR treated him unfairly. There is just so much pride to suck up; taking his wings or disregarding this young man's confidence is what RR did. I think Tate was ok with being a backup to Denard, especially when Denard started the season the way he did; however, playing behind Devin in one game was a slap coming straight from RR. I felt at that time RR had something personal against him as well as a point to make to prove he didn't need him. RR used players for his own reasons; win at all cost to save an image created at West Virginia. RR only needed Tate for football; didn't care about him as a person, and that really can mess with a young man. Tate is the kind of football player that will put it on the line for a team, and in return should be valued by a coach. Coach Hoke would be great for Tate as a person. I am rooting for Tate regardless if he plays for another team or not, just like I have rooted for Mallett ever since he left Michigan.

Look everyone, let me set the record straight, I live out here in San Diego and I've known the family for 20 yrs., I'm not super close to them but I have the dad's and uncle's cell #'s and they have mine. The older 2 brothers, Jason and Chris are very smart young men, Tate, being the youngest didn't work as hard in the class room, I don't know who's fault that is, but I will say I ran into his dad at a blockbuster a few weeks back and he told me that Tate was super depressed about leaving U-M, I felt so bad when I heard that. The family is from Michigan and they all are big U-M fans, trust me. I tried to nudge Mike Forcier into telling me more about whatshisname's treatment of Tate during his time in AA, and he stayed mum and I could tell he wanted to go off on the previous coach, but he bit his lip, I give him credit for that. None of us really know 100% what really happened, so please try to respect the young man a little more than some of you are doing. Tate is U-M Go Blue in his heart, let's wish him well in whatever endeavor he faces, good luck Tate, I'm in your corner young man.

Could be that the best move for Forcier would be to get his head screwed on straight, pull his grades together, and come back to Michigan. The kid had potential and I was sad to see him get so injured in that stupid system run by the coach who shall not be named.

He doesn't have 'it'. That's all there is to it. Those who stay will be champions.

Very sad. I'm surprised he isn't getting more help, unless he refuses it.

I said all of that to say this: Tate has big time issues which need addressing. He needs to find himself, get rid of his inner demons, and then think about playing football. I was a big fan of Tate's during his freshman year at Michigan. He had guts, grit, and moxy. He seemed to shrug off pressure, and I thought for sure he would be the next great quarterback at the UofM. Fast forward to last season's spring practices where Denard simply out worked Tate to EARN the starting role. Rather than working harder himself Tate sulked on the sideline during the first couple games of the season, and wasn't engaging at all with fans. Tate and his brothers were brought up coddled, spoiled, and on a pedestal. Whenever any of them have been presented with adversity, rather than work through it or confront it they have taken the easy way out. Look at Tate's brother Jason. He did the same thing - packed up and left with his thumb in his mouth when he couldn't hack it. For Tate's sake I hope he is able to get his life together. He's a great talent, and it would be a shame to see it wasted.

Ridiculous statement to make,. You know NOTHING about the family,. I guess a kid going to Stanford must be coddled and can't hack adversity, because we all know Stanford is such a cake school to get into. They will take anybody. I transferred colleges and I was not a football player. it was not because I couldn't " hack it". I realized I wanted something different out of my life than my first school was going to offer me. I guess at 19 you knew everything and have never changed a job, or got a new house or changed cities. Sometimes people realize certain places are not a fit for them. That does nto make them bad people. In fact, I think it makes them smart to leave for place that can offer more of what they want.

I feel sorry for this kid. He needs some adult guidance in his life, and it seems clear that he has received little from either his parents or during his time here in A2. Good Night and Good Luck

Agree ... the kid needs some help. From a purely football perspective I'm sorry to see him leave Michigan. I thought he was a good QB ... could have been better in his decision making ... but when he was playing smart football it was a fun thing to watch.
