Former Michigan QB Tate Forcier still considering multiple schools after nixing transfer to Miami
Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier announced in February that he was transferring to Miami (Fla.). And then, he wasn't.
The San Diego native told ESPN college football writer Joe Schad he decided that Miami was too far away.
"I just didn't feel comfortable and wanted to be closer to home," Forcier told ESPN.com. "Miami is completely on the other side of the country. It would have been fun playing there. But I just wanted to be closer so my parents can afford to come to the games."
Three California schools are now on Forcier's list of possible destinations: USC, San Diego State and the University of San Diego. He also mentioned Auburn, Kansas State and Montana.
Forcier would be able to play immediately at either San Diego or Montana, which are Football Championship Subdivision programs. He'd have to sit out one season at another Football Bowl Subdivision team, according to NCAA transfer rules.
After starting all 12 games as a freshman at Michigan in 2009, Forcier was a backup to Denard Robinson in 2010. He was ruled academically ineligible before the 2011 Gator Bowl.

He's not ever going to the NFL, so he might as well go be a big fish in a small pond at Montana or San Diego. Then, he can put up some great stats and go back home to work the family QB coaching business.

If it wasn't for Tate Forcier, Michigan would have lost the Illinois game last year. The final score was something like 67-65 (A basketball score). It was because of Tate that Michigan was rewarded a bowl appearance. He was the QB who got the job done when pressure and adversity suggested otherwise. He is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. And I wish him all the best. Mr. Forcier would be best to play in San Diego or someplace close to home.

Come on. Even before he listed Auburn and Kansas State, you had to realize that distance was not the reason he decided not to go to Miami. Because Michigan is right around the corner from CA, right? He was never going to play at Miami, most likely, unless the starting QB got injured. The biggest head scratcher on the list probably is USC. They have way better QBs and always will, and he doesn't fit their offense. Plus, if he was struggling academically at Michigan...um...I mean, and that's not to say USC is a better school than Michigan is, but they are both great academic schools, so...in combination with everything else I said, USC is a worse situation than Michigan and Miami. Anyways, it's pretty obvious that telling Forcier and his family to "make a good decision and concentrate on...school work" is laughable. And spoiled kids with well-to-do parents don't necessarily need degrees to make it in life (actually and unfortunately, nowadays a degree is more of a hindrance for most of us young people than a door opener, i.e. tons of debt and no work experience to get hired. Love Michigan to death, but I will always be in debt because I went there).

Miami is too far away because his parents can't afford to come to the games, but he is still considering Auburn? How is Auburn going to be so much more affordable for his parents than Miami? Tate is lying about why he isn't going to Miami. I suspect either the "U"s low academic standards are still too high for him, or he was told he wasn't going to be the automatic starter, that he would have to compete for the job, and now little boy Tate is having another hissy fit.

" Miami is too far away because his parents can't afford to come to the games, but he is still considering Auburn? How is Auburn going to be so much more affordable for his parents than Miami?" It's very simple...Auburn pays more for their athletes.

a lot of fans seem to know what's right for tate----i sure don't. i do appreciate what he gave the football program the last three years. he took a lot of shots on the field---and some in the media----- that bordered on the unnecessary. i hope he finds a home and flourishes.

I submit that expressing an opinion isn't the same as seeming to "know what right".

Tate should go to SDSU. First sit out the year and GROW UP. Then after being humbled a little bit (or A LOT) be a team guy and help lead a D1 program to a bowl game by his senior year. Get a degree and be a contributing member of society. The lights shined too bright in Ann Arbor and the structure just wasn't there for him to be held accountable. This kid was Elvis, before fall classes began at Michigan his freshman year. He couldn't handle it and there weren't enough strong seniors or leadership on the coaching staff to keep him in check. Being close to his family will be good for him. I wish him the best of luck.

O Tate, come back! Come back, Theo said. Come back, Come back; Resurrect Our Spread! Shane Morris is probably a good qb, etc. But we need unparalleled dynamics (like the southern cheating teams) to take Crystal home. Listening Hoke?

Need a job Theo? They are hiring at Pete's Truck stop. You could learn unparalleled dynamics right on the job, and even better, Pete's sells imitation crystal at the souvenir counter. You can find the crystal right next to the moon pie display.

I would advise the young man to find any school that will allow him to get a degree. He will never ever play a single down in the NFL. his football career will end with college. A degree and a non-football (playing) career needs to be his focus. The lad peaked 1/2 way through his freshman year in college. No shame in that, I peaked in 11th grade, most of us who played peaked by 12th grade.

Don't go to USC Tate, you'd be fighting an uphill battle with the recruiting the Trojans do. SDSU is a good destination, but if you went to USD, where Harbaugh first coached, you can play right away and then transfer to SDSU and be able to play right away again without sitting either year. Make a good decision and concentrate on your school work. Good luck Tate, may you find a place to call home and feel good about your future.
