(Update: ESPN confirms schedule.)

The first night game in Michigan Stadium history will get some extra national attention.

Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal is reporting that ESPN’s "College GameDay" will broadcast from Ann Arbor on Sept. 10. An official announcement from ESPN is expected later today.

This will be the 10th time, and first since 2007, that the traveling college football preview show has set up camp in Ann Arbor. Only Ohio State and Florida have hosted the show more often since it first hit the road in 1993.

The Sept. 10 game will be broadcast by ESPN beginning at 8 p.m.

Former Michigan wide receiver Desmond Howard is part of the show’s panel, along with host Chris Fowler, former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit and former Indiana coach Lee Corso.

Howard was already part of the festivities surrounding the night game.

On June 10, when Michigan unveiled the legacy uniforms it will wear against Notre Dame, athletic director Dave Brandon said the school would honor Howard and the 20th anniversary of his 1991 Heisman Trophy-winning season.

Previous GameDay appearances in Ann Arbor:

1994: Penn State 31, Michigan 24
1997: Michigan 27, Colorado 3
1997: Michigan 20, Ohio State 14
1999: Michigan 26, Notre Dame 22
2000: Michigan 13, Wisconsin 10
2002: Michigan 31, Washington 29
2003: Michigan 38, Notre Dame 0
2003: Michigan 35, Ohio State 21
2007: Ohio State 14, Michigan 3

The Irish will suffer their first loss as the nightime venue will be a little overwhelming for them. Go Blue!!

The coaches and the players need the clock to slow down due to the amount of work that has to be done before the season starts. All I hope for is as few injuries as possible given the nature of the game and that everybody remembers..."This is Michigan" and "Go Blue!"

I'll bet ESPN was chomping at the bit to get in on this game. This is win, win, win for both ESPN and Michigan. Now if we could get the clock to speed up I'd be a happy camper. I'm ready for some Michigan Wolverine football.

Mick, I agree with you. I remember reading an article, (after the 2007 game), that Chris, Lee and Kirk felt they were treated pretty badly by the Michigan fanbase. That it was one of their worst experiences at a college town. And maybe it wasn't the true fans that did it? There are a lot of ner' do wells that get drunk and act a fool. Paints us all in a bad light. Did we act badly because we lost that game? I'm not sure it was because of RR, but we sure didn't have much of a product to entice them, (ESPN), to come back to Ann Arbor since then. Maybe this year we will have a new run both in Football and in national recognition. Go Blue!

Any chance the game will be switched to ABC instead of their cable affiliate? Or at least ESPN3 in addition to cable TV?

It'll be great to have Game Day back in Ann Arbor. It's great exposure for our football program and university. However, I can certainly do without Lee "I still haven't gotten over the Anthony Carter last second TD in 1979" Corso.

Interesting how ESPN avoided Ann Arbor the last three years....hmmm ? Never the less, let's move on - it sure brings added excitement when ESPN brings their stage here for the national spotlight. I look forward to seeing Erin Andrews of course, Desmond, Chris, Lee, and that other ex-quarterback guy. Geez, those are some pretty good teams that Michigan beat - it's no small wonder Michigan football has so many followers in America. MgoBlueForTiM.......hoping Erin is still on the game day staff of course......

I hope our students will be respectful yet avid that day. Let's represent in a loud but classy way. We want them back more often for exposure, recruits watch this stuff, so let's impress! Go Blue for This Is Michigan!!!

If anyone needs to be told how to act at a football game, it's the alumni......yikes!
