The release from Michigan included confirmation of a 2012 game against Massachusetts and a 2013 game against Akron that had already been reported.

Michigan will start the 2013 season with three consecutive home games against Central Michigan, Notre Dame and Akron before a road game at Connecticut.

Central is 1-3 this season.

In late August, Michigan announced it had agreed to a rematch with Appalachian State in its 2014 season opener. The Mountaineers stunned a No. 5-ranked Michigan team, 34-32, at Michigan Stadium in 2007.

It doesn't help local merchants, but keep in mind that there are a lot of Michigan fans spread out all over the country. I'm in Seattle and my buddy is in Monterey and we're considering going to the Alabama game next year. That said, this cream-puff non-conference schedule is driven by the BCS process that so many people love (I do not). One loss and your chance of getting to BCS bowl are severely compromised, so those games are now more important to win than to use as serious tests before the conference games begin. 20 years ago, Bo's goals were to beat tsio, win the Big 10, and go to the Rose Bowl. There was little talk about end of season ranking, and none from Bo. Starting the conference schedule 1-2 was not fun, but if those three games were tough and got the team ready for smash-mouth Big 10 games, it was okay. Now a 1-2 start means the season, from a BCS standpoint, is already lost. Crummy system resulting in a crummy experience for fans.

Good points heartbreak and david, David Brandon wanted more national exposure for UM but I rather see UM agree to a one home and one away agreement with Bama than playing against each other just once at a neutral site: The Jerry Jones Madhouse.

I agree with you. However, in a home and home situation the money gets split with all the other memebers of the B1G. With neutral site games the universities keep all the money for themselves. DB running it like a business not a college football program.

2012, 9-15 UMass, till 10-13 Illinois, No football in Mich Stad for a month! How do you local merchants feel about that?? 6 home games, Air Force, UMass, Ill, MSU, NW and Iowa. What a great home schedule? You guys pay a lot of money for those tkts while Jerry Jones gets the Bama game in Texas! Oh, you mean you aren't going? Doesn't everyone go to Texas for a "home game"? And you pay how much??

It is better to get football tickets one game at a time. Cupcake opponent in bad weather? No problem, either stay at home and watch it or go to a lively local sports bar? With Stub Hub now in the mix, one can pick and choose with ease.

Ohhhhh am I shaking in my boots with this schedule. Fine, play Central. But on top of Akron? On top of UConn? And it's not like the Big Ten schedule is all that hard, with Minnesota, Indiana, Northwestern and no Wisconsin or Illinois. And home games against ND, Nebraska, OSU--all of it is about the money and running scared. And I'll bet if David Brandon could get another team like Eastern or North Dakota State, he'll cancel the UConn game and play them at home. Shame on the schedule makers. We play nearly as many MAC schools as Big Ten schools it seems.

That's how Michigan get's there 6 wins to make a bowl game. Charge $70 buck to make people come watch a terrible MAC school play Michigan. Come on schedule makers, create a schedule that does not involve high school teams.
