Braylon Edwards wonders why Michigan isn't recruiting his brother, Chelsea's Berkley Edwards
Those in and around the Michigan football program are thrilled with Brady Hoke's roaring start to the 2013 recruiting class.
There is one notable dissenter. Former Wolverines receiver Braylon Edwards chided Hoke on Tuesday night for failing to recruit his younger brother, Chelsea High School running back Berkley Edwards.
"I don't understand how my brother has the 8th (fastest) time in the country in the 60m, ran for 1800 yards last year and 20 and UofM wontcall," Edwards tweeted around 8 p.m.

Berkley Edwards -- a 5-foot-8, 176-pound all-purpose back -- was a member of the AnnArbor.com Dream Team as a junior last season, joining 2012 Michigan recruit Drake Johnson of Pioneer High School in the backfield.
Edwards is not rated by Rivals.com, although he is listed as running a 4.52-second 40-yard dash.
Rivals lists 13 schools with interest in Edwards, including Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon and others. However, his only current scholarship offer is from Central Michigan.
That upsets Edwards' older brother, who wore the famed No. 1 jersey during his final year at Michigan and went on to become a top-five NFL draft pick.
"Love my school and I played for coach (Hoke) but call my brother before its too late and you guys miss out like Lloyd would have ifnot forsoup," Braylon Edwards tweeted.
'Soup' is the nickname of former Michigan wide receivers coach Erik Campbell, who is now on the Iowa coaching staff.
"Back to importance. You will be hearing more about Berk Edwards on my twitter. Berk Edwards hottest running back in the 2013 class."
Michigan now has 14 commitments for the 2013 class after the commitment Tuesday of Ohio linebacker Mike McCray. Twelve of the 14 are four-star recruits, according to Rivals.

Just watch the youtube clips of the Edwards kid. He may not have the dimensions, but he is extremely fast and cuts pretty well. Although I wish Braylon hadn't tweeted, I can't say that I disagree with him. I, for one, would love to see another Jamie Morris.

Oh ya if he is anything like Broland even I as a TOSU fan would tell Michigan not to give him the time of day. Broland was in the bars more in the Flats in downtown Cleveland then he was on the field for the Browns. One of the worst (of many) draft picks of the new version Browns. Broland simply has no class.

It's really simple why we aren't pursuing him. He's too small to be a RB in our future offensive scheme and we already have several good players to fit the slot receiver/return role (Justice Hayes and Dennis Norfleet). Obviously, he's not tall enough to play wideout either. I understand why his big brother is not happy, but Michigan football isn't a fraternity where legacies are guaranteed a spot (in this case a scholarship). I'm sure he'd be welcome as a preferred walkon though.

Simple. It all depends on how much he wants to play at Michigan. If he really wants to play he can enroll and walk on a la Jordan Kovacs. Nobody thought he would make it either. Maybe in the end we can have a movie, "Berkley" so I don't have to watch "Rudy" anymore.

I agree whole heartily with nearly everyone here (did I say that..), but you don't tweet that stuff and you don't air that stuff. I have a feeling maybe Edwards worked on the coaches privately and maybe the truth hurt a bit - therefore the tweets. Braylon, be very careful here. You have a lot of Michigan people and fans that love you - don't change that. MgoBlueForTiM.........we love you Braylon, # 1 forever.......

I think this is more about Braylon Edwards trying to pump up his brother's standing in the recruiting process. Based on what is out there he really doesn't stand out. He appears to have talent, but, nothing indicates he is at a 3 or 4 star level that Michigan would want. What he really needs is to have a spectacular start in the fall and a great showing at camps this summer. Definitely not an early offer talent at this point.

Because UM has Northfleet already, and he is faster. Berkley may end up at Northwestern, UI or IU, but not atop flight BIG Program.

Maybe if Deveon Smith or Ty Isaac commit we'll go after him. But for now its just not a priority, we're not going to have a 5'7 feature back. We need a horse. His only offer is from CMU, so "before it's too late" maybe be later than implied.

When they hire Braylon on the coaching staff........ I am a sentimentalist and a traditionalist. Given that, I would love to take all siblings, children, etc of former Wolverine greats. But the reality is that with a limited number of spots, the coaching staff has to recruit who they think will really help the team, and there must be a reason that young B Edwards is not yet offered (or may never be). Maybe they want to see how he will do as a senior? Maybe his grades are not up to par? Maybe they want other positions? Size? Whatever it is, I think it is sweet that Braylon is publicly going to bat for his brother, however misplaced it is. But Hoke will not be intimidated. That much is clear.

He keeps quoting track records. Football is a whole different game. Speed helps but football is a lot harder sport with more to do and know.

Is there anyone out there besides me that would like Brayon to disassociate himself from the Michigan family. Everytime Mr. Drops opens his mouth embarrassment follows. And, I never thought he was nearly as good as he thinks he was.

Braylon was a lot of fun to watch while he was at Michigan. His behavior has been kind of embarrassing ever since. When I enumerate successful Wolverines in the NFL, I tend to "forget" to mention him. Twitter + Athletes = Not a good thing.

There is a reason bet on it. Just because who braylon is does not make his brother an automatic pick. I would guess size has something to do with it. Wide out might be a better position for the kid.

5-8, 176 is not the direction UM is going with RBs. Im sure the kid has talent, and will find a place somewhere, but UM already has a few small Multi purpose players on the roster. Hayes and Norfleet come to mind.

Anyway you look at it, a person should make it on their own. Not because of who you are related to. Not everyone can follow in a parent or siblings footsteps either. Maybe he has his own dreams. Wish him the best whatever happens.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the earlier article on Berk. But maybe with the money Braylon is making he can send his little brother to a great school and help UM save a scholarship - they are going fast for 2013. And what are the differences in being a walk on vs scholarship? Assuming you are good...
