Brady Hoke or Tom Izzo? Michigan football coach, MSU hoops coach up for BTN Coach of the Year

By Nick Baumgardner

Who had the better season?

Michigan football coach Brady Hoke or Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo?

On Monday night, the Big Ten Network may offer an answer one way or another, as both Hoke and Izzo are among the four candidates for the BTN's Men's Coach of the Year award.

The fifth annual BTN Awards Show will air live at 7:30 p.m. Monday on the Big Ten Network.

Hoke, who led Michigan to an 11-2 record and a Sugar Bowl title during his first season and Ann Arbor, and Izzo, who led MSU to a Big Ten Tournament title, are joined by Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean and Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson in the category.

Hoke isn't the only Michigan nomination, though.

Wolverine senior quarterback Denard Robinson and senior receiver Roy Roundtree are nominated in the "Best Finish" category for their last-second 16-yard touchdown hookup to beat Notre Dame last September.

The Michigan-Notre Dame game is also nominated for "Game of the Year."

Hoke it is. I would take a second place finish behind State in football over a One Seed in the NCAA. End of Story.

Tough one Nick. Not sure if yearly improvement or improvement (that might be MVP Award) is a factor, but Hoke izzo and crean came through big time. Because football only gives two teams the opportunity to play (Nat.Champ.) in a tournament, Hoke's ability to garner the only B10 BCS win, have the best winning percentage and his highest finish in the final USA Coaches Poll, might give him the edge - though all very fine coaches. This is easy. Michigan state is continually on top of the college basketball world, as sickening as it makes me to say that. But the job hoke did in year one with zero kids he recruited, bring them back to relevance, actually looking like a disciplined football team and fighting all game very game. Hokes the coach of year easily. 2010 when I'd watch a game, even when we are ahead I was uneasy. Poor defense and tackling, offense who either went three and out or more rarely had a big play to score made everytime uneasy to watch. Last year even in close games I had so much more confidence in hoke, staff and the kids just by his demeanor. And we actually looked like a football team last year. Go blue

Based on this site's posters, I would feel that UofM is "continually on top of the college (football) world." Nice to see Nic keeping it real. Hoke did a great job this season and is deserving of the award.

Coach of The Year: Our King! If not for Our King, Hoke wouldn't have had any good players. And I'll tell you one more thing - Coach of The Year in a Few Years: Not Hoke! Why? 'Cause he's running off all of our fast guys and replacing them with Quicksand Quincies. Arizona and Oregon play football. Big Ten = backwards.

3/4 of the starting D-line from last year was recruited by Carr. And, the fact that Hoke and his staff was able to get the formerly undisciplined RR guys together (ask Mike Martin how well he was coached before Hoke's arrival) and work as a team should be enough to get Hoke Coach of the Century. By the way, we'll see how Arizona does against non-spread Pac-12 team USC. Me thinks that won't go so well...ever.

That's funny your queen couldn't do anything with his own players. Then hoke comes in and does a better job with kids not even of his picking. Shows how much you know and how good your queen was. Go hop on a wildcats fan site and lather them up with all your "'my queen is the best college football coach" nonsense
