10 Michigan athletes to be honored at Bob Ufer Quarterback Club banquet Monday; seats still available
Ten Michigan student-athletes will be honored Monday during the 65th annual Bob Ufer Quarterback Club golf outing and banquet, held at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor.
Michigan football coach Brady Hoke, Michigan basketball coach John Beilein and Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson will be on hand to introduce this year's honorees at the 5:30 p.m. banquet reception.
This year's senior award winners are: Meagan Bauer (golf), Amanda Chidester (softball), Shawn Hunwick (hockey), Kevin Koger (football), Dan Madwed (swimming), Kellen Russell (wrestling) and Matt Thompson (golf).
WInners of this year's Ufer Spirit Award are Luke Glendening (hockey), Jordan Kovacs (football) and Zack Novak (basketball).
The Quarterback Club will also honor retired local attorney Ed Hood with this year's Oosterbaan Award. The master of ceremonies for the evening will be former Michigan football assistant coach Jerry Hanlon.
The club, created by the late legendary Michigan football broadcaster Bob Ufer, was assembled in 1947.
Over the past 29 years, the annual golf outing and banquet event has raised funds for 115 Bob Ufer-sponsored scholarships, totaling more than $565,000. Each year, graduating senior student-athletes from Pioneer and Huron high schools are awarded scholarships to help fund their education at Michigan.
The current scholarship fund sits at $465,000.
Tickets for the annual golf outing are sold out, but seats at the banquet are still available. Reception tickets cost $70 per person.
