Not a sweet homecoming for Matt Vogrich, Jordan Morgan struggles and more notes

EVANSTON, Ill. — Matt Vogrich didn’t have the homecoming he wanted.

The Michigan sophomore guard grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, is a huge Chicago Bears fan and, with friends and family in attendance on Wednesday night, he and his team were bad.

Michigan was blown out of Welsh-Ryan Arena, 74-60. Vogrich had three points in 22 minutes, making only 1 of 3 shots.

So, not exactly his plan.

“Yeah, I guess so,” Vogrich said. “It’s just another game, though, that we've got to win and we came out a little flat.

“They run a great offense and it was tough.”

It is the second year in a row Vogrich struggled in Evanston. Last year he missed both his shots in eight minutes and went scoreless.

The Wolverines’ other Chicago-area native, walk-on Josh Bartelstein, played the final two minutes and missed one shot.

Morgan struggling Redshirt freshman forward Jordan Morgan hasn’t had the best stretch since Michigan started Big Ten play.

Wednesday was no different as Morgan had five points and seven rebounds, but ended up in foul trouble for the fourth straight game.

“Just different teams with different styles of play and different defenses,” Morgan said, explaining his struggles. “Today was a struggle for everybody.”

Entering Tuesday's game, Morgan had been averaging 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in Big Ten play.

This and that Michigan has lost three straight to Northwestern. … Sophomore swingman Jordan Dumars did not travel to Northwestern, the second straight road game he has not been with the team. He has been dealing with a knee injury. … Junior guard Stu Douglass, who made three 3-pointers Tuesday, tied Glen Rice for seventh all-time on the Michigan 3-point ledger with 135. The 3-point line was introduced prior to Rice's junior season in 1987.
