Win not in the Cards for Michigan as Louisville prevails in National Championship

By Pete Cunningham

A dejected Trey Burke walks away in a sea of confetti as Louisville players celebrate their 82-76 victory over Michigan in the national championship game in Atlanta on Monday, April 8.

Trey Burke played like the consensus national player of the year and Spike Albrecht played like the guy who has had to face him every day in practice for nine months, but Louisville was just too strong in the end. Michigan led by as much as 12 in the first half, but that lead was only one at the break and quickly gone in the second half. The Cardinals added another double-digit comeback to their resume and prevailed, 82-76.

Glad the bally hoo is over and one with. Can we send the students home now? Ready for a peaceful way to get downtown without playing dodge em students. Glad to hear UM lost to TN by 5 points. I knew this would happen.

Couldn't be more prouder of my Michigan Wolverines. It was definitely a magical season and they were peaking at the right time. It's unfortunate that they couldn't bring home the trophy, but they have nothing to hang their heads about. They got beat by a Louisville team that has shown the same class as this great Wolverine team has. I'm glad America had the opportunity to see two great teams clash on the biggest stage in college athletics. And both made their fan base proud with their great play and great class. Michigan showed they could win it in the first half, but Louisville came thru when they needed to in the second half. The officiating was atrocious. What happened to the cream of the crop working the championship game? This crew missed so many obvious calls on both sides, that it was unbelievable to even watch. Their unprofessionalism really took away from what turned out to be a classic match-up. Congratulations to a great Michigan team that gave me memories that will last a lifetime. You made me proud to be a part of Wolverine nation. And thank you Trey Burke for all those jaw dropping moments this past season. You were simply amazing!

This was a great team and a great year. They showed their talent throughout the season and their perseverance and courage in the tournament. After losing some confidence and momentum to end the regular season, the team rose to the occasion in the tournament and shocked the world. Different game, different star. It was a great performance. Coach Beilien deserves great credit for putting this team together and coaching them to the championship game. Every one of the team members and coaches acted with dignity and honor. They well represented the University, the community and the State. The future awaits.

Tough loss, but the Fab Five didn't win any championships either. Nothing to be sad about here.

After the fashion of WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment, the NCAA should be redubbed the NCEA, or National Collegiate Entertainment Association. Big money, big stakes = foregone outcomes for best revenue generating story lines. Cinderella (go Schockers) was allowed a pretty good run, before the favorite was allowed to hack their way in to the championship game. And anybody watching ESPN ALL DAY MONDAY knew that, if the play was anywhere near close, this was gonna be Rick Pitino's week.
