Michigan guard Eso Akunne academically ineligible for winter semester
Freshman guard Eso Akunne, a graduate of Father Gabriel Richard High School, is academically ineligible for the remainder of the 2009-10 Michigan basketball season.
Akunne played in seven games for Michigan, playing 17 minutes against Utah.
Akunne had initially come to Michigan as a preferred walk-on but earned a scholarship before the start of his first semester in the fall.
During the time of his ineligibility, Akunne will be allowed to practice with Michigan, but will not be allowed to play in games.

There goes U-M's tournament hopes. With the loss of Akunne and Ben Cronin, U-M loses almost a point per game.

That's gotta be painful for ol' father Richard there. Very high-profile failure from a local perspective.
