The Michigan basketball team squandered a golden opportunity to impress the selection committee Wednesday when it lost for the ninth straight time at Wisconsin, 54-48.

No one expected the Wolverines to win, but when you lead for the game's first 36 minutes and hold the home team to 18 points in the first half, it can only be considered a missed opportunity.

DeShawn Sims had 23 points, 13 rebounds and an interesting pre-game tweet for Michigan, but Trevon Hughes was too much down the stretch for Wisconsin.

The Wolverines are going to have a hard time making the NCAA tournament this year, but SportsIllustrated.com's Seth Davis thinks John Beilein can recruit that caliber talent at Michigan.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten Wednesday, Michigan State survived against Iowa to stay unbeaten in conference play.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL • No big surprise, but The Sporting News' Matt Hayes says there aren't many coaches under more pressure than Rich Rodriguez next year.

• Former Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham came in at No. 32 in Mel Kiper's first mock draft. Guard Steve Schilling was the only current Wolverine on Kiper's top-five list of juniors by position, checking in at No. 4 (two spots behind Justin Boren).

• Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, another ex-Wolverine, isn't interested in coaching the Oakland Raiders.

• Boubacar Cissoko won't be returning to the Michigan football team after his latest run in with the law.
