Michigan basketball team to play home-and-home games with Iowa State
The Michigan basketball team has been searching for a major conference opponent to bring into Crisler Arena next season.
Apparently, the Wolverines have found one.
Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg announced Wednesday night the Cyclones will play in Ann Arbor this season in exchange for a return game in Iowa in 2013.
Michigan had been looking for a home game against a major program since it found out its game in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge would be on the road.
In Iowa State, it found an average program from the Big 12. The Cyclones were 16-16 last year and 2-9 on the road.
The game presents some interesting storylines. Former coach Johnny Orr, who was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Honor last season, left Ann Arbor to coach at Iowa State in 1980. Also, former Michigan State guard Chris Allen transferred to Iowa State last season.
Korie Lucious, another former MSU guard, also transferred there but will be ineligible next season due to NCAA transfer requirements. Royce White, who started his college career at Minnesota and didn't play a game, also transferred to ISU.
Michigan is 4-4 all-time against Iowa State, with the last meeting a 94-72 Wolverines win on Dec. 19, 1992.
