Former Michigan forward Anthony Wright has an update on quest to play college basketball next year: He might be able to play Division I.

The Sterling, Va., native is planning on taking unofficial visits to Toledo today and then the University of Detroit on Saturday.

Both have really ideal and really different situations,” Wright said.

Toledo fired its coach, Gene Cross, after last season and has overhauled its roster. Detroit, in the Horizon League, is expected to compete with Butler for the league title.

Wright's scholarship at Michigan was not extended to include a fifth season, but he has one year of eligibility remaining. He could end up at a Division I school this season provided he finishes the final seven credits of his degree this spring.

Typically, Wright would have to sit out a year for transferring. But under NCAA rules, if the transfer student is "academically motivated," his destination school could seek a waiver that would allow him to play immediately.

Wright said he would need to search for a graduate school program Michigan does not offer.

The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 3.2 points and shot 32 percent from the field during his career. His numbers dropped from 18.8 his redshirt freshman year to 8.6 this past season, when Michigan finished 15-17.

Wright also said transferring to a Division II school also still an option.
