Big Ten player poll: They'd play for Michigan State coach Tom Izzo

By Michael Rothstein

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Simple question: Who’s the best basketball player in the Big Ten Conference? That’s tough to answer, as we found when we surveyed 11 Big Ten players at the conference media day Thursday.

In our quick nine-question poll, players agreed on little, except for which coach - besides their own - they’d want to play for. Michigan State’s Tom Izzo was the easy winner in that category.

“Seems like an unbelievable motivator and he wins,” one player said.

The results:

Only 11 players doing the poll? Look at the spread of results. Practically meaningless from a statistical point of view. Some of them were probably voting for themselves. Give me a break.

I love this investigative reporting, but seriously, lets get some tough questions answered like questions about about favorite colors or foods? Boxers or briefs? Ginger or Maryann?

I'm sure the results would be similar if football players were polled.
