The Saline Stix U12 baseball team made a pilgrimage to the Baseball Hall of Fame to compete in the 104-team Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament.
The Stix, comprised entirely of Saline residents, complied a 5-1 record in pool play -- including a 9-1 win over the Florida state champion Gainesville Crocs -- before losing 9-5 to the Missouri Longhorns in the round of 16.
The Stix also placed in the top six of two skills competitions held before the tournament. Zach Schwartzenberger placed in the “Golden Arm” competition and eight members of the Stix placed in the “Around the Horn Plus” game.
Each team was asked to bring an umpire to help manage the heavy load of games. The Stix brought 19-year-old Saline graduate Ian Good, who was elected by his peers to be on the crew that worked the championship game.
