Polo Fields Golf and Country Club pro John Seltzer to compete with his father at PGA event
John and Jack Seltzer have been through a lot together.
And Sunday, they'll make history together.
John Seltzer, the PGA head professional at Ann Arbor's The Polo Fields Golf and Country Club, will compete alongside his father, Jack, this weekend at the 45th PGA Professional National Championship in Seaside, Calif.
Jack and John Seltzer are believed to be the first father-son duo to compete in the same year of the event.
"I've been dreaming about this for many years, and trying like crazy but could never quite get it done," Jack Seltzer told PGA.com recently. "The way that things have turned out, you couldn't have scripted it better."
Currently a member of Ypsilanti's Kendall Academy of Golf staff, Jack Seltzer finished as high as third in the PGA Professional National Championship in 1982. His last appearance in the event was in 1993.
John, meanwhile, finished in a tie for 58th place at the 2008 event.
To make matters more special for the Seltzer family, John will marry his fiancee, Amanda Carey, in a private ceremony in nearby Carmel, Calif.
"We have been working out the details online and by phone," John told PGA.com. "And that makes it kind of tough, but also special for us."
