He expects to be fully recovered when he returns to Michigan, where he won the 2011 NCAA all-around title as a freshman ans was runner-up as a sophomore.
Mikulak finished fifth in the Olympic vault final on Monday, sticking both landings despite a heavily taped left ankle that he sprained during the Olympic trials. He recovered in time for the Olympics, participating in five events during team qualifying and four in the team finals, where the U.S. finished a disappointing fifth.
This won't be Mikulak's first recovery. In July 2011, he broke both of his ankles during a floor exercise routine.
