Michigan senior Kylee Botterman received the AAI Award as the NCAA’s top gymnast at a banquet held Thursday night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Just two other Michigan gymnasts have been finalists for the award, Janessa Grieco in 2003 and Elise Ray in 2005. Botterman is the first to win it, according to MGoBlue.com.

Also the Big Ten and NCAA Northeast Regional Gymnast of the Year, Botterman will attempt to add to her five all-America titles in Cleveland this weekend.

Michigan competes in the first session of the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Semifinals at noon today, with the top three teams in each semifinal advancing to Saturday’s Super Six finals. The top four individuals in each event compete for individual titles on Sunday.

MEN’S GYMNASTICS NCAA Qualifier: Defending national champion Michigan placed third in its six-team qualifier at Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday, advancing to today’s 7 p.m. team and all-around finals at St. John Arena. Stanford and California also advanced from Michigan’s qualifier while Oklahoma, Illinois and Penn State also advanced. (Details)
