Michigan Stadium public skate schedule announced for Big Chill at the Big House festivities

By Jeff Arnold

Looking for a chance to skate inside The Big House?

The week-long festivities surrounding next week's Big Chill at the Big House will wrap up with a public skate at Michigan Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Fans can skate on the ice that will be used for the Michigan-Michigan State outdoor hockey game in 30-minute sessions beginning at 10:15 a.m. and ending at 3:35 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, with only cash being accepted. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Gate A of Crisler Arena beginning at 8 a.m.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Tickets will be specifically valid for one of the eight sessions. Skaters are encouraged to bring their own skates because skate rental will be very limited. Sticks and pucks will not be allowed on the ice. Attendees must wear skates to be allowed on the ice surface.

Parking is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Blue Lot adjacent to Michigan Stadium. Ticket holders must enter through the tunnel at the east side of the stadium.

The actual Big Chill at The Big House game is sold out. Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson said Tuesday the game and the activities surrounding the event will be unforgettable.

"People are going to read about it, they're going to remember it and they'll say, 'This is college hockey? Look at this,'" Berenson said. "Some of them will think it's like this all the time when they see it for the first time. But it will be a memorable event -- another boost for college hockey."

The public skate sessions will follow this schedule:

Session 1: 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Session 2: 10:55 to 11:25 a.m. Session 3: 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. Session 4: 12:20 to 12:50 p.m. Session 5: 1 to 1:30 p.m. Session 6: 1:40 to 2:10 p.m. Session 7: 2:25 to 2:55 p.m. Session 8: 3:05 to 3:35 p.m.

Seriously... do you realize that its 15 bucks to skate on a rink inside the big house... the day after the biggest hockey game ever. $15 is really not that bad. even for a college student.

The price of $15 for 1/2 hour is absurd.

For a family of 5, $75 for 30 minutes of "free" skating. A bit cost prohibitive. Governor elect Snyder must agree?
