Members of the Michigan softball team wait for sophomore Ashley Lane to reach home plate after her fourth-inning home run during Sunday's 10-0 win over Purdue. The Wolverines hit six home runs in a weekend sweep of the Boilermakers.

Ashley Lane’s team-leading 13th home run of the season helped the Michigan softball team make quick work of Purdue for the second straight day.

Lane’s blast highlighted a four-run fourth inning and gave the Wolverines a 10-0, mercy-rule shortened win at Alumni Field Sunday. Michigan beat the Boilermakers 13-1 in five innings on Saturday.

Alycia Ryan added a solo home run in the fourth inning, giving the Wolverines (35-3, 5-1) six homers in the Big Ten weekend series sweep.

Before the game, coach Carol Hutchins told her team that one lopsided win doesn't necessarily mean another one is coming.

"We talk about putting everything behind you, because yesterday doesn't have anything to do with today," Hutchins told MGoBlue.com. "We played Purdue in 2006 and beat them 15-0 -- just killed them -- and the next day we lost. Every day is different, so we work really hard to stay even keeled."

While the offense was generating at least one run in every inning, Michigan pitchers Stephanie Speierman and Jordan Taylor combined on the shutout, allowing one hit apiece. Speierman (16-0) earned the win after walking four and striking out three in 3 1/3 innings.

Taylor took over when Speierman walked the bases loaded with one out in the top of the fourth inning. She struck out the next two Purdue (24-10, 2-2) batters to end the threat.

Dorian Shaw went 2-for-3, including an RBI double in the first inning and Nicole Sappingfield added a two-run double in the second inning.

The Wolverines complete their current seven-game homestand with games against Western Michigan on Tuesday and Central Michigan on Wednesday. Both start at 6 p.m.
