Ashley Lane was 0-for-9 with the bases loaded this season.

The junior second baseman’s change of fortune led the Michigan softball team to a 5-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Wisconsin.

Lane’s grand slam to center field highlighted a five-run third inning for the Wolverines, who would later pound out 14 hits in a 7-5 victory in the second game in Madison, Wis.

Freshman pitcher Haylie Wagner won both games. She threw a complete-game, seven-hitter in the opener before pitching 4 2/3 innings of relief in the second game, when she allowed four runs on four hits.

In the first game, Michigan (36-15, 15-5 Big Ten) spread out six hits by six different batters. In the second game, the top three hitters in the Wolverines’ lineup did most of the damage.

Leadoff hitter Bree Evans went 3-for-4 with three runs and a stolen base, No. 2 hitter Nicole Sappingfield went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, and No. 3 hitter Amanda Chidester was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

It was Chidester’s second four-hit game of the season and third of her career, according to MGoBlue.com.

Cleanup hitter Sara Driesenga drew three walks while going 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Whitney Massey went 4-for-7, with three RBIs in the doubleheader for Wisconsin (33-17, 12-8).
