The Michigan softball team’s freshmen pitchers lost their accuracy and the Wolverines suffered a rare Big Ten Conference loss Saturday at Indiana.

After winning the opening game of a doubleheader 3-2, Michigan dropped a 7-2 decision to the Hoosiers in Bloomington. It was the first league loss of the season for the Wolverines (23-10, 4-1) and just their ninth since 2008.

Michigan has won 75 of 84 (.893) Big Ten games while winning the last four regular season titles.

In the first game, Stephanie Kirkpatrick hit a solo home run in second inning and Ashley Lane added a solo shot in the Wolverines’ two-run fifth inning. (Game 1 boxscore)

The Hoosiers broke up Michigan freshman pitcher Haylie Wagner’s shutout with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Sara Driesenga stopped the rally and picked up her second save of the season with 1.2 innings of perfect relief work.

In the second game, Indiana (17-16, 2-3) recorded four hits and three runs against both Dreisenga and Wagner, but the critical stretch was when the freshmen combined for three straight bases-loaded walks in the third inning. (Game 2 boxscore)

A two-run, pinch hit single by Taylor Hasselbach pulled Michigan within 3-2 in the top of the fifth, but Indiana’s Amanda Wagner responded with a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning.

Michigan outhit Indiana 10-9 in the second game, but left nine runners on base.

Minnesota 9, Michigan 4: The host Golden Gophers knocked around Michigan starter Bobby Brosnahan, a Pioneer High School graduate, for eight runs in the first 1 1/3 innings. Ohio 7, Eastern Michigan 2: After EMU starter Neil Butara allowed three runs over seven innings, Ohio put the game away by scoring five times against the Eagles’ bullpen. Sam Ott and Tucker Rubino each had two hits for Eastern. (Details)

Harvard 11, Michigan 7: The host Crimson (5-4) took a 7-2 halftime lead and held on to beat the Wolverines (1-9). Trevor Yealy, David McCormack and Thomas Paras scored two goals apiece for Michigan. (Details)

Indiana 8, Michigan 7: Senior Claire Ivry scored two goals in her last game at Canham Natatorium, but No. 14-ranked Indiana became the first team this season to rally from a halftime deficit to beat the No. 9 Wolverines. (Details)
