After leading Michigan to a pair of Big Ten titles, the All-American won the 1987 James E. Sullivan Award, given to the top amateur athlete in the United States.

He then went on to win a gold medal with the United States Olympic Team in 1988 before debuting in the MLB with the California Angels in 1989.

Abbott's big league career hit its pinnacle in 1993, when, as a New York Yankee, he threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians.

Abbott's book uses that no-hitter as the central story line while reflecting back on his life on and off the baseball diamond.

Published by Ballantine Books, "Imperfect: An Improbable Life" currently has a retail price of $26.
