Michigan hockey to play Cornell at Madison Square Garden on Thanksgiving weekend

By Pete Cunningham

It looks like the Michigan hockey team won't have to wait long for a chance to avenge its season-ending loss to Cornell.

Either that, or someone at Cornell is about to take a big hit on poster printing costs.

A man identifying himself as a Cornell alumnus tweeted a picture of a promotional poster for the Cornell vs. Michigan hockey game.

A man identifying himself as a 2010 Cornell alumnus posted a photo on Twitter Friday morning of a promotional poster for the game. According to the poster, the game will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

That is the same day the Michigan football team will play at Ohio State.

Last season, Michigan coach Red Berenson confirmed discussions were taking place between the schools about a game in New York City. At the time, university officials said they would not comment until a contract was signed. A spokesperson reiterated that stance Friday, adding they are in "final stages of negotiating (a) contract."

Cornell ended Michigan's season in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 overtime win at the Midwest Regional in Green Bay, Wis.

The Wolverines are 3-3-1 all-time against the Big Red and 1-1-1 in regular season meetings. The teams haven't met in the regular season since January 1997, when they played to a 3-3 tie.
