Berenson, who has proclaimed his love for outdoor games in the past, will suit up in the Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni Showdown at Comerica Park on New Year's Eve. The alumni game will be Berenson's third outdoor game in four days with Michigan scheduled to play in the Great Lakes Invitational at Comerica Dec. 28 and 29.
The games at Comerica are all part of the build up to the NHL Winter Classic, which will be played at Michigan Stadium on New Year's day.
The Red Wings announced the roster on Thursday which a University of Michigan spokesperson later confirmed. Also on the Red Wings alumni roster is Aaron Ward, who played at Michigan under Berenson from 1990-93.
Berenson recently signed a contract extension that will keep see him lead the Wolverines through the 2015-16 season, which he said will be his last. Though 72-years-old, Berenson is still a regular on-ice participant at Michigan practices and is a regular in Michigan alumni games. He played for the Red Wings from 1970-75.
