Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson love for outdoor hockey will be put to the test this winter.

Berenson, who has proclaimed his love for outdoor games in the past, will suit up in the Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni Showdown at Comerica Park on New Year's Eve. The alumni game will be Berenson's third outdoor game in four days with Michigan scheduled to play in the Great Lakes Invitational at Comerica Dec. 28 and 29.

The games at Comerica are all part of the build up to the NHL Winter Classic, which will be played at Michigan Stadium on New Year's day.

The Red Wings announced the roster on Thursday which a University of Michigan spokesperson later confirmed. Also on the Red Wings alumni roster is Aaron Ward, who played at Michigan under Berenson from 1990-93.

Berenson recently signed a contract extension that will keep see him lead the Wolverines through the 2015-16 season, which he said will be his last. Though 72-years-old, Berenson is still a regular on-ice participant at Michigan practices and is a regular in Michigan alumni games. He played for the Red Wings from 1970-75.

Did you know coach was cited for public urination while intoxicated years ago? Bet that one doesn't make the history books.

And if you live a perfect life, let us know in 20 years. I am sure Red was embarrassed by the episode, but when you drink beer, ya gotta go. It was late at night and the bar was closed. BFD.

Aaron Ward was in Bowman's doghouse, for some reason. I liked his grit on the blue line, and was sad to see him go elsewhere.

"Berenson played in the NHL for 17 years as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. He accumulated 261 goals and 397 assists in 987 games -- the most by any Michigan alumnus in the NHL -- leaving an indelible mark on league history. Berenson scored at least 20 goals in seven NHL seasons." http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hockey/mtt/berenson_red00.html
