Michigan football more popular than ever, according to Google
After its popularity took a hit during a 3-9 season in 2008, Michigan football is more popular than ever, at least in Google search terms.
Here's a quick graph that plots the popularity of the search terms "Michigan football" and "Michigan basketball" on the search engine web site:
The numbers on the graph reflect how many searches have been done for a particular term, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time, not abolute search volume numbers, according to Google.
The data is normalized and presented on a scale from 0-100.

The graph is pretty uninteresting as the data has been almost completely "homogenized". But, if you actually enter the exact phrase match "michigan football" and "michigan basketball" into Google, you get 586,000 pages and 72,800 pages respectively. Not all of those are going to be related to Univ. of Michigan, but probably most. Also according to Google, "michigan football" was searched for 110,000 times in August, while "michigan basketball" had only 2,900 searches. Signed, Someone with too much time on their hands.
