Michigan baseball wins, U-M softball splits two games and more Friday results

A three-run seventh inning led the Michigan baseball team to a 9-6 win over Iona in the opener of a weekend series in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Freshman outfielder Will Drake drove in three runs for the Wolverines (3-1), including a two-run double in the seventh gave reliever Kyle Clark his first win of the season.

Clark allowed two Iona runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.

Michael O’Neill went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Michigan, which will play Iona twice more on Saturday and again Sunday.

Iona’s James Beck went 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning off Michigan starter Brandon Sinnery. (Boxscore)

Oral Roberts 11, Eastern Michigan 6: Oral Roberts scored 10 runs in the third inning to win the first game of a weekend series in Tulsa, Okla. Bo Kinder went 3-for-5 with four RBIs for EMU. (Details)

SOFTBALL

Michigan 3, Illinois State 1; UMass 1, Michigan 0: Amanda Chidester had a three-run home run and freshman Haylie Wagner threw a four-hitter in the No. 12 Wolverines’ win against Illinois State at Clearwater, Fla. In the second game, UMass pitcher Sara Plourde blanked Michigan on two hits. Michigan starter Sara Driesenga limited the Minutemen to two hits, as well, both in their run-scoring fourth inning. Florida Gulf Coast 5, Eastern Michigan 1; Eastern Michigan 7, Seton Hall 1: Courtney Nicholson went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and a run scored for the Eagles against Seton Hall, salvaging a split in the first day of the Central Florida Invitational in Orlando, Fla. (Details)

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS

Oklahoma 197.225, Michigan 196.300, Texas Woman’s University 194.650: One week after losing to No. 1-ranked Utah, the Wolverines lost at No. 2 Oklahoma. Sophomore Joanna Sampson won her second all-around title in as many weeks and Michigan had its best team score of the season. (Details)
