Michigan baseball wins at MSU; U-M softball sweeps OSU and more Saturday results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Kevin Krantz found the perfect time to snap his hitless streak.

The senior first baseman’s pinch-hit single scored Cole Martin with the game-winning run in the Michigan baseball team’s 4-3 win at Michigan State on Saturday.

Krantz, hitless in his previous 16 at bats and batting .056 this season, hit for Brett Winger in the top of the sixth inning with two outs and runners on the corner. He greeted MSU reliever Jeff Kinley with a run-scoring single to right center.

Martin had driven in Will Drake with the game-tying run on a fielder’s choice earlier in the inning.

Sophomore Alex Lakatos took over on the mound for the Wolverines (15-6, 2-3 Big Ten) in the bottom of the inning and blanked the Spartans (18-10, 2-3) on three hits the rest of the way. Freshman Trent Szkutnik, who allowed two earned runs on nine hits over five innings, earned the win.

Dylan Delaney’s two-run single in the fifth inning accounted for Michigan’s other runs.

Michigan State’s Blaise Salter had RBI singles in the second and fourth innings. (Boxscore)

The Wolverines, who beat MSU 4-0 on Friday, will attempt to complete a three-game sweep of their in-state rival at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
