Men's basketball among four Michigan programs with perfect APR scores, football up 15 points
Four Michigan varsity athletic programs received perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores Wednesday from the NCAA, and none of the school's 27 sanctioned varsity sports saw any penalties for the 2010-11 calendar year.
Michigan men's and women's basketball, along with men's and women's tennis, received perfect scores of 1,000, while the Michigan football program's APR score moved up to 943 -- breaking a four-year skid of falling numbers.
Michigan basketball coach John Beilein achieved a perfect single-season APR score of 1,000 for the third time in his career.

A year ago,the Michigan's football team's multi-year APR score sat at 928 -- barely above the cutline score of 925.
Michigan's current score of 943 is above the 925 baseline score and five points below the national average for football.
The APR is calculated by the eligibility and retention of athletes over a four-year cycle. During the Lloyd Carr-to-Rich Rodriguez transition period, the football program saw a consistent dip in this area. But after Brady Hoke's first season at the helm, the current multi-year (2007-08 to 2010-11) score has began to climb.
Rodriguez and Hoke share the single-year APR score at Michigan in 2010-11 of 984, the highest of Hoke's coaching career.
Michigan basketball coach John Beilein, meanwhile, achieved a perfect single-season score of 1,000 for the third time in his career. The Wolverines were one of only 11 teams in the country with a 1,000 score, and the only Big Ten team.
Michigan had a multi-year average of 970 a year ago, and has now seen a rise in multi-year APR scores for a fifth straight year.
The national multi-year average for men's basketball is 950, according to the NCAA.
The Michigan hockey program received a multi-year score of 978, down 10 points from the previous cycle.
The women's basketball program has now earned two straight multi-year perfect scores, and hasn't had a rolling average below 987 since the 2006-07 report.
No Eastern Michigan University teams suffered NCAA penalties due to APR scores. In fact, no EMU programs fell below the baseline multi-year score of 925, either.
EMU football registered a score of 935, while men's basketball came in at 951. EMU women's basketball registered a 962.

It's a good thing DB got rid of Coach Borseth when he did, and don't think for a moment it wasn't DB's idea, because who wants a coach that improves every facet of the women's program including their educational performance? Red better watch out. His team fell 10 points and now the hockey team is only 53 points above the baseline. Just because you have taken the Michigan hockey team to the NCAA tournament 2 decades in a row doesn't mean you can't be replaced, Red. Go Blue!

Terrific work by the students with a lot of support from the coaches and the athletic department. The way it is supposed to work.
