Max Scherzer dominates again in Tigers' win; Cardinals bench Matt Leinart and more links
Associated Press
Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer has a 1.50 earned run average in his last seven starts. He improved to 10-9 Thursday night, pitching eight strong innings in a 7-1 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays.
"I can feel my slider's a lot better," said Scherzer, who struck out eight. "I have the confidence to throw it to any hitter in any situation in the game."
Jhonny Peralta and Gerald Laird homered for the Tigers, who have multiple home runs in eight consecutive road games, their longest streak in club history.
Jose Bautista accounted for Toronto's run, hitting his league-leading 41st home run in the seventh inning.
That leaves Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera 10 home runs behind him, pretty much ending any talk of a Triple Crown season for him. Cabrera leads the league with 104 RBI and is second with a .340 batting average.
