Updated story: Temple pays $6 million exit fee to leave Mid-American Conference

Temple, a football-only member of the Mid-American Conference, will leave for the Big East Conference, sources told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday.

According to the report, the MAC requires a $2.5 million fee to leave the conference with two years' notice. Because the Big East needs an eighth football member in 2012, and Temple is interested, the Owls may have to pay $3.5 million to leave sooner.

Temple currently competes in the Atlantic-10 Conference in all other sports. Reports indicate it would join the Big East for all sports.
