By Rich Rezler

The Mid-American Conference football championship game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit at least through 2015.

A four-year contract extension was announced Tuesday by MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher and Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand prior to the league's media day.

"Our relationship with Ford Field, the Detroit Lions and (title game sponsor) Marathon provides this conference, its fans and our member institutions -- coaches and most importantly our student-athletes -- the opportunity to showcase their talents in a superb facility to a national television audience," Steinbrecher said in a statement.

The MAC title game has been played at Ford Field since 2004. From 1997 to 2003, it was played at campus sites.

Eastern Michigan -- the MAC school closest to the downtown Detroit stadium -- is one of four teams (out of 12) that hasn't played in the game since it moved to Ford Field.

This year's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30.
