Longtime Michigan assistant wrestling coach Kirk Trost and Mike Kulczycki let go
Two assistant wrestling coaches at the University of Michigan, Kirk Trost and Mike Kulczycki, were let go last week, according to a report at InterMatWrestle.com. The positions were posted on the University of Michigan job board on May 9.
"I felt that we needed to make a change for the continued development of the program," Michigan head coach Joe McFarland told InterMat. "Kirk and Mike have served the Michigan program well - both as coaches and as student-athletes - and we wish them continued success in the future."
Trost has been an assistant at Michigan for 23 years, and was McFarland's top assistant since he became head coach in 2000. The two were also teammates at Michigan. He was the National wrestling Coaches Association assistant coach of the year in 2005 and national champion as a heavyweight in 1986.
Kulczycki has been an assistant for six years and is the director for Michigan's USA Wrestling regional training site. While a student athlete at Michigan, Kulczycki was a four-time NCAA qualifier and an All-American.
